Good morning! Popping in before the bi-weekly staff meeting. Only a few more of these time sucks and I'll be done!

As for leadership roles, I've been in a few. One of the big things is to observe the people you are "leading". You can learn a lot by observing and gaging the personalities you're dealing with. There might be power dynamics you do not know about. If you jump too fast, as I've had a tendency to do it could cause some alienation.

We're waiting for the crapstorm that is going to hit here...ice, snow and sleet. Blech!

Have a great day all!

That's really good advice. There are unspoken power structures and roles in most groups.

Remember what it was like when you WEREN'T the leader. There are so many truly brilliant books out there, G, about becoming an effective and beloved leader of people. Some of us "go to the literature" and you are probably one of those.

Also, watched Nightmare Alley last night and they used the term "Black Rainbow." HUH!

Oh man, I love those little coincidences! They scare the bejeezus out of my husband but they make me happy. We both see them as "signs from the Universe/God," but he would find some way to find the negative in it, whereas I would say, "Were you thinking about your entry when that popped up? Maybe that means you're on the right track!"

Alternatively, "Were you avoiding thinking about your entry when that popped up? Maybe the Universe wants you to get to work!" ;)

Actually, it did scare the bejeezus out of me. I had NEVER heard the term before this week, haven't been super happy with the multiple definitions, and then to hear it last night being explained!!! I just finished the novel and it sure wasn't in there....so yes, bizarre!

I'm currently lovesick for Rufus Sewell because of his role in Zen, so my mind has been on fanfic...and I need to switch gears. LOL!

That's a good thought: "Remember what is was like when you weren't the leader."

You taught me something too. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your new role! I've had to do that recently, and it's... a lot. I stepped in for a coworker -- who has been kind of a mentor and friend for the last several years -- when he moved to a different project. Now I'm leading people for the first time, all of whom are fairly new, on a project that's in a scramble mode, doing things I'm not very experienced with. But I'm doing okay with it? It takes time to get your feet under you in any new position, much less in a leadership role for the first time. So far, my biggest issue is that I should have been keeping better tabs on what some of my people were doing and making sure things were progressing/getting done. That's coming back to bite not me but one of my people. I'm going to bat for her, though. That's probably the thing I've learned most from my own past bosses: have your people's backs.

And employees can always tell if the "boss" has their backs. It means a lot. I really appreciate my old boss Angie for being that way!

A thought: maybe include a link to the "work thread" in these posts?
