How will that work when the early weeks especially have multiple eliminations?  The bottom X number all get a strike?

Yes. In weeks where there are multiple eliminations, anyone who would be subject to being eliminated would receive a strike.

Barring someone dropping out, this means that no one would be leaving us until Week 3, so even the "first person eliminated" would still get to enjoy 3 weeks of Idol.

I like that!  It's hard to be eliminated so quickly ... plus others don't get to see more work!

In theory, it would eliminate run-offs. I can still think of ways they could happen, under specific scenarios. But they would be much less likely. (at least until the Top (insert where the cut-off will be based on the final sign up numbers here) )
