Mystic mint cookies

Jan 21, 2004 22:29

I told minnaleigh last week that my favourite childhood snack food was Little Debbie Nutty Bars, but today I remembered "mint cookies," and now I have to amend that statement. Nabisco Mystic Mints, or "mint cookies," as my family called them, were even better. They came in a dark green and white box that opened on top, and inside the fudge-covered cookies ( Read more... )

Australia is a grand old place for chocolate biscuits and we also have the Mint Slice which is fairly similar to what you described and completely delicious. To my mind even better than a Tim Tam.

If they wouldn't break I would send you a pack. Maybe I should anyway. Only one or two would break, maybe.

I was just going to recommend Mint Slices - definitely better than Tim Tams.

I've sent them to the States before and they survived the trip quite well. No breakage as far as I know.

Ooooh, Mint Slices really really do sound like Mystic Mints. Yum.

I wouldn't turn down a package if one were to make its way across the ocean. No, ma'am. *grinning*

Oh.My.God.

Mystic Mints were .... aphrodisiacal. brian1789 and I used to buy them and .... um, never mind.

I have not been able to find them in stores for years.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Not that I was in the market for aphrodisiacs when I was six or seven, but I certainly enjoyed them as the childhood equivalent of an orgasm. *grinning*

Ooooohhhhhhh, Mystic Mints! I LOVED those!

Hmmm. I'll check my grocery store and see if they carry any to ship to you; I don't look in the cookie aisle very often -- and haven't for years -- because I have enough foods to try to avoid. *g* But I can certainly see if we have them for you!

They came in a dark green and white box that opened on top,

And wasn't the box actually white, and wrapped in a waxy dark green paper? I remember having to cut the paper right along the edge of the box to open it, but I might be confusing that with another cookie...

Yes, yes! That's exactly what the box was like! I remember cutting into the paper with a butter knife or the edge of a pair of kiddie scissors. Heee. :-)

Hmm, further digging reveals something called Fudge Mint Covered Oreos. I wonder if that's the same thing? Have you ever seen those?

Never in my life did I want to have long fingernails as much as I did whenever we had a new box of Mystic Mints in the house. *g* But my grandmother opened them with her thumbnail sometimes, and the white cardboard used to get caught under it and cut her, and she didn't seem to appreciate that. So maybe kiddie scissors were the smarter option. ;-)

I haven't seen those but I don't think they're the same thing. I didn't think MM were just plain Oreos underneath, and I don't recall the white filling being the same consistency as Oreos. But I could be wrong about that.

Hmmm. There are tons of nostalgic food sites around. I may have to do some research too. ;-)

The cookies were definitely ordinary Oreos, or at least the chocolate "cookie" part was. Oddly, they didn't advertise that on the box at all, because I only knew by licking my way to the centre of one. *grinning* You're right about the white filling, though -- it was very definitely different from Oreos' filling texturewise. And much much nicer. And minty. Mmm.

No fear, Save On Foods has 'em. They just call them "Arnotts" however. Mmm.
