Yes, that stove is valuable, don't ever let anyone throw it away!!!! It is most likely late 1940s or possibly very early 50s, no later. As for the gold and white, yeah, my dad's parents' house on Long Island was *exactly* like that. They downsized quite a bit when they moved to FL, and when my nana moved to MI after my grandfather died, but she still has quite a bit of funky stuff. That's some great tile in the bathroom there, too! I love mid-century houses. :)

The hilarious thing is that as soon as I saw it, my immediate thought was "la_sherazade will appreciate this!"

It's a pretty phenomenal place. With just a few subtractions this house could be a midcentury museum of sorts.

Holy crap that stove. Holy crap that's going to make some ebayer very happy.

Why are grandma houses always so full of knickknacks? And how does one spell knicknacks?

It's the sum total of the dusty little things one accumulates over a lifetime, I suppose.

And I think it is knick-knacks!

I have a bit of info about the manufacturer, based on correspondence (real LETTER CORRESPONDENCE! through the MAIL!) that D's grandfather exchanged with an antique-clock expert in the mid-1980s.

It's totally like a treasure hunt, which is probably why I found the challenge so appealing.

I've told D's dad I want it whenever it becomes available. He thinks I'm insane.

Is it weird that I was expecting much, MUCH worse?
(from your previous descriptions)

I do like that phone.
A LOT.
