Jersey and back, part two.

This is D's grandma's house. You can just see Grandma herself, hunched in the doorway, no doubt wondering why the hell I'm taking pictures of her house.

As for the interior... the lighting at Grandma's is not great, and I hate the pop-up flash on the D40, so I made do.

This is in the basement - according to my father-in-law, the basement was the main living space for the family when he was growing up. Thus, the kitchen was down there. This range, for whatever reason, did not make it up to the main floor when the kitchen was moved. It's in amazing condition - the oven is cleaner than my oven at home. When Grandma finally succumbs to her family's insistence that she move into an assisted living place, I told my FIL I'd want to put that range on eBay, lest someone unthinkingly throw it out. No doubt someone restoring an old house somewhere in the area would be delighted with it.

This is the current kitchen, as viewed from the dining room. Apparently the dining room used to be a combined eating/dining area.

My father-in-law told me this story of how the kitchen addition got added to the house.

Apparently his mother asked his father if she could replace the phone in that room. He said yes.

She replaced the phone, and then decided the color did not go with the room. So she said the room needed to be painted now. And so it was.

Then the furniture didn't match any longer. New furniture needed! New furniture procured.

Then the new furniture was too big for the room. What they needed was a separate addition for a new kitchen, to free up the space in the dining room! Hence, new kitchen addition on the back of the house.

Apparently this took place over a couple of years, but still. Impressive.

The above is a lamp. Swear to god.

This is evidently an antique clock, circa 1888. I've been asked to see what I can find about its potential value.

This is the doorstop in the upstairs bedroom where we slept. Well, where D slept, and I couldn't sleep, and thus listened to podcasts all night.

This one fascinates the shit out of me. This photograph of a bear is varnished to a round of wood, bark intact to stand in for a frame, very 1970s-style. The positioning and demeanor of the bear is baffling to me.

I've decided the bear is either
angry ("rarrr I'm going to maul you!"),
frightened (hence being caught in mid-flail),
directing traffic,
singing an opera,
or
trying to warn the photographer that Bear Mom is behind him.

Over the bed.

The GW Bridge, coming home.

Sadly, I lost a lot of pictures to bad lighting. Think of this as an abbreviated tour.
