It's sweet that you try to do something special for his birthday. Your Boy seems to think that people with non-Holiday birthdays somehow have better birthdays than they do. Probably arises from childhood, when people actually did things for a birthday, but I'd wager it's not much of an issue in adulthood. The special items of my birthday often consist of some "happy birthday" shouts on my Facebook wall, and a phone call from mom & dad. It's not much, but I guess I do know that they were thinking specifically about "my day", and not distracted by some larger holiday. Anyway, sorry for rambling. Glad you had fun at the cirque and your other activities.

I am inclined to agree with you about birthdays in adulthood, for me it usually means going down the pub and not having to buy a round, which is always a bonus.

I will be honest, I wanted to see this show as well, so it was quite a convenient excuse...

But...but...what about the guy in the dog costume who pees on the audience? How come you left him out?

I had forgotten about him!

That said, that sort of thing happens in most pantomimes, so it's something I've seen before.

I did rather like the diver who popped up every now and then, he was a nice incidental character.
