So, tomorrow, Harper Lee's much anticipated prequel/sequel/what-have-you (It's complicated.) to To Kill a Mockingbird is to be released.  Since it was announced, I've been on the fence about Go Set a Watchman.  For me, To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the very rare books that is perfect as is, so much so that I don't want it to be messed with, with ( Read more... )

It does sounds like a very odd book. I have never managed to finish To Kill a Mockingbird. It is a book I have picked up a couple of times with good intentions of reading but then found something else I would rather read.

I think it is probably a little like Life of Pi. My friends all read it and at least one suggested you should just rip out the last chapter and pretend it was never there.

I hope when you do get to read it you at least can enjoy parts of it.

I've experienced that, too, a book or a movie or a TV show everyone else loves, so you give it a try and, um, no. At the risk of being one of those people ::g:: have you tried the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird? You may have better luck with it. It's a really beautiful movie, and Gregory Peck won a well-deserved Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch.

I'm still really dubious about Go Set a Watchman. The more I hear about the content and the circumstances of its publication... Yeah, I think it's going in the freezer for awhile. ;-)
