[It seems that the observation deck has become something of a favorite place for this Spock. It was a place to clear his head, and after recent events that was certainly what he needed. Jim’s resignation, assuming command and his subsequent debate with the doctor… His crew- his friends- seemed to be falling apart underneath of him. And so he found himself back here, less upset than the last time, still needing the solitude for thinking, pondering, meditation on recent events.

So he once again gazed at the stars, more approachable than he had been, diffusing the new stress of command.
