So. Have any of you ever taken a course where your final assignment was to tell the professor what he could do better next time....and the only thing you could come up with was "Sod off teaching and go get a job as a turnip farmer instead ( Read more... )

Just....ow. There's not much that can sink a course faster than a crappy teacher. Sorry you had to make your way through without his help!

In my case, it's really not a problem with the professor so much as with the stupid program and the shape it forces the curriculum into. Only way I could get the right amount of credits was to take this stupid, not-in-my-concentration course....and the professor assumes that we're all there because we're absolutely fascinated with the subject matter.

It's nice to see a prof who actually cares enough to ask the question.

From the turnip comment, I take it he sucks? Actually, now I see your previous reply. "The professor assumes that we're all there because we're absolutely fascinated with the subject matter." Sounds like a lot of your issue is with the system rather than with the particular prof.

Okay, so your suggestion could be to remember that due to unit requirements and graduation requirements, some people in the class have neither an extensive background in the subject nor an innate love of the subject. Maybe? *shrug* That or you find something to BS about with his teaching style or habits handing out notes or something else superficial.

I ended up suggesting that the course incorporate more participation and opportunity to pursue personal interests. Yeah, the professor in this case isn't a bad guy or stupid or anything, it's just...annoying programmatic shit. I am there to get my degree, get out, and get hired. Not to be your cheerleader.
