Halfway Out of the Dark, Eleven/Rose, PG-13

“I’m always yours, Rose.”

“Are you?”, 1,027

A/N: I didn't use all the words, but those I did certainly came in handy! Someday I will stop with the Eleven/Rose angsting. Today is not, apparently, that day.

this is brilliant. I am absolutely in favor of this. It's such an interesting counterpoint to the River mythos.... the lady who pops in and out of his life until he knows everything about her.... this aspect of Rose as a time traveller would continue on into his past and future regenerations, and this little glimpse is a way of opening up worlds of Doctor/Rose!

the only sad thing is that he never sees more of her than that one tormented period of her life, when she's so worn down ... he doesn't get to see who she becomes in the way that she sees him.

great story!

Thank you so much! :D I think what's always intrigued me since I started writing dimension-hopping Rose (this is my third time) is that line in John Smith's journal--"she will not answer me, and she keeps walking away." I never really got it until a piece of fanart connected it to her walking away in "Partners in Crime," and then it broke my heart. She's so worn down and broken when she turns away from Donna, and she could never say much of anything for fear of collapsing the timelines ( ... )

John Smith's line about Rose walking away never made any sense to me.... until now!

Does he remember Rose all along? Does he know from the beginning that he will lose Rose? Along this line of thinking it seems like he must. ;_;

I have a prompt for Rose and Four to meet (Four tries to seduce her!), so I hope you won't mind me using this story as part of my inspiration. :)

This is the piece I was talking about--it's certainly what made that line click for me ( ... )

Thank you so much! This was new to me; I'd never thought about them quite this way, but that picture hit me like a freight train and I just had to write it. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

The entire thing just broke my heart.

I like how you set it up as a River-like situation, where Rose and Eleven meet out of order as she's jumping across dimensions, except without the irritating fluffy-headed menace. (I... am not a River fan. Just saying.) Your Rose has gravitas and grace, and a sadness that will hopefully be lessened with the Metacrisis.

Thank you for this story.

It's funny, when I wrote this I didn't strictly intend for it to mirror the River situation, but as I got towards the end I found I had to phrase things very carefully to avoid that. (I actually adore River as a character, and Alex Kingston is phenomenal, but the turns the plot took this season turned me off the storyline. The wedding was emotional blackmail in my eyes and I'm not thrilled with that. As a concept, I find the story fascinating; as Moffat writes it, I am not amused ( ... )

Gorgeous. I never would have thought 11/Rose would work, but you made me able to imagine it, so kudos.

:D

As someone who was iffy on the pairing herself at first, that's always the best possible thing I can hear. Thanks so much for giving it a shot!

This was sad and, as pointed out, an interesting counterpoint to River. I love dimension-hopping Rose and I love Rose and Eleven, it's just..there's never going to be a happy ending, you know? But this was a well-written sad ending. Thanks for posting.

Well, there's never going to be a happy ending if I'm writing it, LOL. ;D I don't ever think there will be, though, no. Eleven's a very different man, more somber and withdrawn, and the Rose he sees and keeps seeing is a very different girl than the one he knew. Thank you so much for reading!
