The weather was so hot, that one could almost see sparkly mirages of the heat waves. Georgia Lass (Known to those who knew what her real job was as “George” and everyone else as “Millie.”) drove around the city aimlessly.

It had been a horrible day. She had had a reap before her shift at Happy time. It was a strange double suicide where a pair of Siamese twins thought it would be a good idea to kill themselves by throwing their bodies repetitively on a bed of broken glass and nails.

Then, she had spent a completely mind-numbing day at Happy Time, which included 45 minutes of Delores yelling at her for George hadn’t even done. It annoyed her that it didn’t dawn on Delores until 45 minutes enter the conversation that someone else had been the one who made the mistakes, since the paperwork it concerned George hadn’t even touched.

George thought about going to the Waffle Haus, but she wasn’t sure if anyone would be there right now. Roxy and Mason had reaps in the next two hours, and Daisy had a reap that was in the next city.

George found she had pulled into a familiar parking lot, and she realized it was the parking lot of Rube’s apartment complex. She found an empty spot, and pulled in carefully. She got out, making sure to lock the car door.

A few minutes after trudging through the building, she finally found Rube’s apartment. She had forgotten which floor he lived on, and had gone to the floor above, before remembering his apartment number. Her stupid foggy memory wasn’t working today. She should really go to Rube’s apartment more often, than she would be able to remember his apartment number.

She brought her hand up to knock, but the door was opened before her knuckle connected with the door.

“Hello, Peanut.” Rube greeted with a smile. He gave her a kiss on the top of the head.

She smiled up at him, and suddenly the day didn’t feel so bad after all.
