Sleeeeeeeeeep Study

Mar 18, 2010 08:37

I spent all night last night having bizarre dreams and waking up.  At one point I was in a car that wound up going off a cliff.  By the time it got to the bottom, my hands were full of thorns and bleeding.  The emergency crew showed up and except for my hands, I was fine.  So they were off by the trucks taking care of things.  And the pain was just ( Read more... )

You may have a very active imagination, or you could be processing stuff in your dreams that you don't want to deal with in your waking hours. And the constant recurrence of running away from something....doesn't that suggest anything to you?

The 'running away' dreams were most prevalent when I was in a major depressive state. Lately, it's been mostly the post-apocalyptic scenarios, the snippets of story-lines (see the Space dream from a week or so ago), and the Daily Life with Really Weird Stuff like last night, and the night I dreamt that I was dress shopping but none of the dresses were in my size and the wedding lingerie area was full of rhinestone-covered sandals.

I don't know. It's hard to break a grand, sweeping, post-apocalyptic novel down into 'this is happening in daily life.' How do you do that?

It's symbolic goes the conventional wisdom...you are the one who needs to figure out what it all means, if it means anything at all.

I think the rhinestone covered sandals and lingerie dream is pretty simple to deduce, and relates to body image issues...

Maybe I'm subconsciously frightened that I'm going to ruin the wedding or something. I'm definitely dreaming about shopping more lately. And Kevin's family. Those are extremely mundane dreams for me. No aliens for a change, or cataclysmically devastated future landscapes! *lol*

I did actually find some articles about REM Behavioral Disorder, and that sounds exactly like what I've been doing ever since I was small. I was four when the first case was diagnosed in 1986, and is most prevalent in older dudes, which I guess is why I've been wandering around with it my whole life. Basically, the muscle paralysis that most people get during REM sleep doesn't happen with me, so I'm thrashing around all the time.

Hey, it's all good. I'm of the 'well, I have no evidence either way, so anything is possible' variety.

I don't even know, man. The ghosts thing is one of my most vivid dream memories, because I woke up in the situation I'd been dreaming, and it was freaky and extremely vivid. I did find there's a REM Sleep Behavioral Disorder, though, which sounds exactly like what I do. There's no known cause, though, so I've no idea.

D: OMG that is scary! The worst I ever did was stick my finger in a fan (that was turned on) demanding to know how to turn it on. And I woke the next morning to a pissed off roommate and a sore finger. *lol*

I've heard about people who drive around while sleepwalking and eating cigarette butts and stuff. I think they did a 20/20 special on it once. Does she have to take special precautions to make sure she stays safe at night?

Wow, woman. I think I agree with the whole Sylvia Browne explaination.

I'm so lucky, though! I usually only dream about shopping, having sex with random anime characters ( or with my favourite one, Kimblee -- I have that dream alot ), or about falling in love and getting married.

Those are all my dreams summed up!

Yeah, you really should talk to the sleep specialist about that.

Do you smoke at all? Because I read somewhere that if you smoke before bed then your dreams are more vivid. I don't know if that's even relevant to your case, though.

I used to smoke a lot, but I pretty much quit. My dreams have always been vivid. Mostly I dream about post-apocalyptic scenarios and alien invasions. Lately it's been about dresses and shopping, but that's mostly 'cause I'm engaged. *lol*

I wish my dreamscape were that simple, dude. I am envious.
