-giant hugs- completely and totally understandable! I am a lot like you, notorious for looking but never commenting our of sheer laziness. But just for the record, though I know you are not fishing for the comment, everywhere I take Antares (My Soom Dia that I had you paint) everyone always compliments him and I the first thing out of my mouth is, 'Thank you!! Lyn Raftis did his face up, isn't it just amazing??'
<3 I know you know, but like you said sometimes it's nice to hear it but, your work is wonderful and I love having a lazy day just poking through your gallery threads or your LJ and seeing some of the things you've done. :) <3
Lyn and I have talked about this many times E and believe me it is NOT directed to you.
I would love to post my commissions in the Gallery as I used to, so you are telling me we can do that now? if so then that is great!
We were unhappy at the CAPG but only because it did not get many hits as the regular Gallery and felt our work was not being seen as much as it was in the regular gallery but as you had stated we can now post in the regular Gallery!
Sorry for all the misunderstanding but seems like all is good now! is it possible to have my thread moved to the Gallery now?
I am confused... so ummm... did any of you get any confirmation about having the old thread from the Commissionable Artists Portfolio moved to the Gallery? I only got a message saying we can request for the Commissionable Artists Portfolio thread to be merged with the Marketplace commission thread (now called offsite forum section). There was no other option mentioned. If we cannot have the Commissionable Artists Portfolio thread moved to the Gallery does it mean we can still post our faceup examples each time as a new thread or something similar?
Why don't you guys just post in the main photo gallery like everyone else? Did they ban you from posting all doll photos or something?
For the record, not just face up artists like comments, but I think most people like comments when they post. I think it's human nature to want some sort of feedback.
Honestly? Have you ever tried to find something in the main photo gallery? There is so much stuff of dubious worth in there that I hardly ever touch the darned thing. It's kind of like trying to find something very specific on ebay. You have to sift through pages and pages and you might never find that needle in the haystack unless you play at length with the search terms.
I can understand why Lyn and Cheryl would be upset about this. Especially since I suspect they're going to be prevented from making one large, central thread and required to post each commission separately. If I'm a customer trying to get a grasp on an artist's work, I'm not going to be willing to work for it.
Actually, she's better off in the main gallery. As she mentioned above, there is more traffic in the main photo gallery so that's a plus. Secondly, if people want to find her posts, they just go to her name, then there is a pull down pre set search that shows all threads started by poster. That's the best way to find someone. You just scroll on down. It's usually not that bad, especially from people that don't comment or start a lot of threads. That narrows down the search even more.
Kea's kinda guilty of this too. Probably because we tend to hoard our pretties to ourselves. That, and I know I am not all that confident in my camera skills. ^^;;
I need to find a spot in the new house where I can take good pics.
That said, I can totally understand your upset. I for one have not been thrilled with a lot of the changes at DoA lately. When something works for me, I don't like people dicking around with it. Especially when I don't agree with their idea of 'improvements.'
I for one would be willing to pay a monthly fee for DoA if only to minimize some of these 'improvements' being inflicted on me.
Well, I don't want you to think this was a "WHY DOESN'T ANYONE* POST MY DORRIES I PAINTED RRARRRGH" kind of post. (*with exceptions of course)
The point I meant was that for whatever reasons, a lot of times the pictures I take are often the only ones that people ever see of my work - so again, having that ONE place to post them all was nice. Having 5 wajillion places they can go is less nice. Spend half my day posting, replying, etc.
I used to mostly post here and my CAPG. Here is like an echo chamber and the other is being phased out. Hence that vacuum feeling I get.
It's a valid point, regardless. It's kinda similar to 'why don't you ever wear the sweater I made for you' or 'you never wear the necklace I so carefully picked out for you.' I think you definitely put a lot of heart and emotion into your work. You're proud, and rightly so, and you want some reassurance that the special thing you created is valued.
I'm sure when you never see a doll again, you probably wonder if the owner is unhappy and just never told you. So this is my opportunity to tell you that the dolls you have done for me are cherished and if anything I feel my skills at photography are not worthy of their awesome. <3
Yeah... I'm not quite sure who at DoA is driving this sudden need to move from large, central threads into willy-nilly. However, we had to wrangle with the mods over the meetup threads because they wanted us to create a new thread for every fricking meetup. Well, I'm sorry we like each other and meet several times a month, but that's getting ridiculous. =P
Thanks, Jenn. I appreciate your telling me how much you like your dollies I did. ^_^
I think I wonder more when I see a doll I did come up for sale than I do when I never see pics of them again. I think the thing that killed me most was when I heard that a commission I had done (and was particularly proud of) had been wiped and repainted. I wasn't "OMG YOU PAINTED OVER MAH WURK!!!" I was more of a, "Aw Man...why'd you have to wipe THAT ONE?" if that makes sense.
We CAN post on DoA, that was never the question. We just have new and very specific rules about how we can post in the Gallery. I can even keep on doing what I've been doing all along...posting in my "CAPG" thread...but it is now way down in the Off-Site Artisans sub-forum of the Marketplace which doesn't allow comments...so, boo...why bother?
Sometimes I wish forums had a "like" button, it would take someone a fraction of a second to hit it and at least we'd know for sure someone was looking and appreciating. Even if they don't take that extra time to type out a comment.
And I'm still copping to the fact I am as guilty of not commenting as anyone else!

Again, I was mostly lamenting the loss of content in my established thread and expressing my opinion about it.
The strokes are nice too, though. ^_~

I could be wrong.

I just liked having ONE place to put things and not feel like I was scattering things to the wind and cluttering up the forums.
Again, just my opinion, and I do/will comply with the rules of the road. But I think my posting less is going to go down to zero frankly.
