OVERWHELMED BY WORLD EVENTS

I don't often blog about politics for the reason I often don't usually have strong opinions, even though certain world events do move me quite a bit.  Here's a round up of recent issues I've read that I feel very strongly about.

- Israel/Lebanon: I don't agree with the total war on Lebanon, although I do understand Israel's fear about Hezbollah ( Read more... )

Thank you for the "Future Scenarios" link, lass. The "diplomatic" solution would be a dream, although I fear that Syria and Iran, who gave the nod to Hezbollah that started this particular mess, would never allow such a thing. I guess all we can do is hope for the best; that a UN team with real authority comes in and is able to establish an effective buffer so that both peoples can rebuild.

I was rather disappointed in your friend's site. The people she gets her information from are staunchy anti-Israel; the CNI for example has had a Holocaust denier as a chairman. This does not make for a balanced view. For example, the phrase "total war" is a bit of a misnomer, given that Israel is using the most precise weaponry available in an attempt to target only Hezbollah. "Total war" would be if, like the US in WWII, they fire-bombed cities into ash.

I don't know what to think. I think I read too much on this I can't think straight. I'm worried that whatever the resolution is, it won't be good for anyone.

And yes, you do need to defend yourself at times. Qana I think was on the excessive part since it killed mostly civilian.

On Saturday I learned about incidents going on in China - Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) believers have been being persecuted in China since 1999. They've been sent to concentration and labor camps, and there is now evidence that they are being used for live organ harvesting. It's disturbed me so much and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
I wish we could help all these people. We have it so good, we are so blessed. I just wish we could help.

I hadn't heard of that. Thanks for mentioning it. As much news as I do get a hold of, there's always something that slips on by.

You haven't heard of it because no one in media will cover it. I only discovered it because there were two people with fliers regarding it; they were trying to inform the general public. Newspapers etc. won't cover it because of our relations with China, and other political reasons. This website has more information on it, if you're interested: http://www.faluninfo.net/
I don't know what else to do for these people but pray for them and spread the word so others will know. I mean, not just the Falun Dafa believers but all these people suffering - the Congonese children, the women in Bangladesh..what can we do for them?
