“I hear it’s free beer night at the Astrodome.” The second time in five years he’s asked her out on a professional sports date. Scully, he really, really wants to take you to a stadium or arena of some sort.

Not only that, but he wants to take her on a sports date a four-hour drive from Dallas. Mulder does realize that the Astrodome is in Houston, not Dallas, right? This Texan has to wonder. Hee!

Scully, all sad and awake, wearing lipstick and a bra with her silk PJs.That part makes me feel sorry for her on several levels. For one, that she is wearing a bra to bed, because that's just uncomfortable! ;-) For another, it really is sad that she is alone and Mulder is alone, and being them they can't just talk to each other about their feelings or be of comfort to each other ( ... )

Oh MAN! For some reason the Astrodome thing never occurred to me! I mean, I know where it is, but it just never clicked. HA. On the other hand, THAT'S how much he wants to go to a baseball game with her: he'll drive to Houston. (Still: I always wonder, is there even such a thing as "free beer night" anywhere? I can't even imagine. It would be madness, considering how nuts people get over free can cozies and bobbleheads!)

But hey, a mere ten years later that all will have changed, so that makes me happy. She'll still be in bed, all sad and awake, but she'll be bra-less, have an extremely hot Mulder beside her, and will actually tell him what's wrong and let him share her troubles.
YES YES YES. I have this weird feeling that IWTB might kind of line up with FTF, if you look at corresponding scenes. One day when I'm really, really bored, I'll look into that.

I hope you do! Just the other day I mentioned to jeviltwin that I'd noticed some really nice, subtle similarities between the locker room scene in IWTB and the hallway scene from FTF. Mulder pushes to get the answers and needs Scully's help. She withdraws. IIRC he even says "I need you on this" -- exact same words in both scenes. I'm sure there are more scenes that line up. So fantastic ( ... )

I'll try to come back with more soon, but yay for quoting!

And...
Part II: thwarted kissing
Maybe THIS time it won't happen! Never give up hope!

The wavy black oil is aces--crisp, classy, evocative, understated. Along with Mark Snow's spooky orchestration, it perfectly sets the scene in the same way the TV credits do, only with a bit more sparkle.
WORD! I often feel alone for loving that little bit, but I'm glad I'm not!

“What about mah meeeen?”
Makes me LOL every time, without fail.

If you were 17 and watching this in a theater, you might make muted squealing sounds at this point. I’m just saying.
Also if you're 22-50, which is what pretty much the entire theater did the other night.

A minute later, Mulder appears, making sweaty look very, very good. Scully agrees with me. (Muted squealing sounds become…less muted. Hypothetically.)
OMFG, I know. Kylie leaned over to me and hissed "Oh my God, LOOK AT HIM" at this point. It was awesome.

LET HIM. Have a few Bud Lights, some nachos and a giant soft pretzel. I promise you, it will turn out well.Gah, I know! He eventually has to practically force her into baseball, lol. (Am I the only one who's always sad that Scully also ( ... )

It’s kind of endearing that Mulder can’t really hold his liquor.
I fell in love with drunk!Mulder the moment he tried to magically get a crappy remote to work, and I still love him.

Am I the only one who was confused by this?
Nah, it's an awkward line. I'm not sure many people got it. I also think you're right about the blue shirt. And yes, they are HOT.

“What are you implying?” IMPLY AWAY! But no, sadly, he wants you to put clothes on, not take them off. Boo.
Haha, yeah, again... if only. Also, if I have one complaint that you sort of brought up, it's that the makeup (especially on Scully) is really too heavy in FTF. It's very obvious she's all made up in bed (which always drives me nuts, completely ignoring the BRA), but also here. You really don't need to pancake that much on, guys!

“Listen, son, we don’t have time to dick around.” YES! For some reason, I really love the condescending “son,” and of course, “dick around.”Hee, me too. Oh, and as to the black oil confusion? Yeah, I don't even try anymore. FTF is a fun, shiny ( ... )

Oh, and as to the black oil confusion? Yeah, I don't even try anymore. FTF is a fun, shiny blockbuster, but it really doesn't jive well at all with the show's canon mythology.
I generally just happily skip along, enjoying it for what it is, but I felt like I had to at least attempt to deconstruct what the hell they were trying to do with the mytharc here. If you don't think about it too hard, it kind of makes sense while you're watching. You just can't even take one second to consider anything that comes before or after.

Oh, yes. I also love that Mulder recognizes her footfalls and looks up before she even comes through the door.
God, yes! They are amazing.

And can I just step in here and express how much I love that CSM, as the central "villain" -- being on XF, he has shades of gray to him of course -- promotes this same agenda? He's Mulder's adversary, but he still wants him alive. He reminds me of a cat, toying with a spider before he eats it. I just love that. And that makes him almost that much more evil, you know? Sure, he's ( ... )

Yep, exactly. Watching this movie makes me want to steal Susan's timeline more than ever, and see what she made of all of this.

I mean, the things that happen to Mulder are AWFUL. And they know that--they know that killing Scully would be a worse fate for Mulder than his own death.
Oh, it totally makes him that much more evil! Which I also love! The way WBD plays him is just perfect. Oh, Mulder. The things your quest put you through...

LMAO, does the CC really fix it? That is amazing.
