The wavy black oil is aces--crisp, classy, evocative, understated. Along with Mark Snow's spooky orchestration, it perfectly sets the scene in the same way the TV credits do, only with a bit more sparkle.
WORD! I often feel alone for loving that little bit, but I'm glad I'm not!

“What about mah meeeen?”
Makes me LOL every time, without fail.

If you were 17 and watching this in a theater, you might make muted squealing sounds at this point. I’m just saying.
Also if you're 22-50, which is what pretty much the entire theater did the other night.

A minute later, Mulder appears, making sweaty look very, very good. Scully agrees with me. (Muted squealing sounds become…less muted. Hypothetically.)
OMFG, I know. Kylie leaned over to me and hissed "Oh my God, LOOK AT HIM" at this point. It was awesome.

LET HIM. Have a few Bud Lights, some nachos and a giant soft pretzel. I promise you, it will turn out well.
Gah, I know! He eventually has to practically force her into baseball, lol. (Am I the only one who's always sad that Scully also shoots him down at the beginning of "all things"? HELLO, SCULLY. The FBI does not have jurisdiction in freaking ENGLAND. What do you think the plan was?)

Panic face! Seriously, they’re adorable. Scully’s joking around, Mulder’s poking fun at himself!
I know, I know! (Also, I'm pretty sure the "panic face" bit was not originally scripted, which just makes me love it more. I'm too lazy to dig out my copy and check.)

Everybody, let’s take a minute for David Duchovny’s 1998 sideburns.
ALDGLHDKDJFKFD THAT CAP. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME.

“THERE’S NO TIME!” All right, Scully, settle down! Mulder gets this hilariously disinterested look on his face in response.
LOL so true. My Phile friends and I love to shout this line randomly, just because. It's one of those things.

They don’t even think about it, they’re both willing to take the fall, to save the other.
SIGH. Them.

Apart from Mulder just being his regular, poor-me self, think about it-he’s saying that Scully being reassigned is being done to him. Because he cannot live without her. Like him being without her would be more painful for him than it would be for her to get a new assignment at some bland field office.
Dude, I know! It's a subtler version of what he says in the hallway! Listen up, Scully!

“…it just doesn’t hold the interest [IE, YOU] it once did. Not after all I’ve seen and done [tragically, NOT YOU].”
LMFAO, I love you so hard.

Both of you should quit! Ride off into the sunset right now and save yourselves some awful tragedy! Trust me, guys. It’s going to get worse.
Oh man, I know. They could've opened a private ghostbusting office with the Gunmen as consultants or something, and Skinner as their disgruntled inside man! If only...

It’s kind of endearing that Mulder can’t really hold his liquor.
I fell in love with drunk!Mulder the moment he tried to magically get a crappy remote to work, and I still love him.

Am I the only one who was confused by this?
Nah, it's an awkward line. I'm not sure many people got it. I also think you're right about the blue shirt. And yes, they are HOT.

“What are you implying?” IMPLY AWAY! But no, sadly, he wants you to put clothes on, not take them off. Boo.
Haha, yeah, again... if only. Also, if I have one complaint that you sort of brought up, it's that the makeup (especially on Scully) is really too heavy in FTF. It's very obvious she's all made up in bed (which always drives me nuts, completely ignoring the BRA), but also here. You really don't need to pancake that much on, guys!

“Listen, son, we don’t have time to dick around.” YES! For some reason, I really love the condescending “son,” and of course, “dick around.”
Hee, me too. Oh, and as to the black oil confusion? Yeah, I don't even try anymore. FTF is a fun, shiny blockbuster, but it really doesn't jive well at all with the show's canon mythology. And the climate stock shot issue you mentioned earlier? Just one of many. I think that horrible shot of Texas with the skyline in the wrong place drives most Texans nuts, and there are about a billion inconsistencies with the Antarctica problem. So it goes.

Why would they have agreed to that? Was it either that or...the aliens take over whenever they want?
Yeah, I don't think that question is ever really answered? I do think it was always interesting that the Syndicate/Consortium were always trying to do something, but exactly what and why and when is never entirely clear, at least not that I can remember. That, or it changes too much for me to be bothered to keep it straight. (bardsmaid told me she has a handwritten timeline of the entire series, for the purposes of her awesome analysis and fic writing. I want to STEAL that thing like you wouldn't believe.)

The LOOK they share when she walks into the field office in Dallas. It’s like, everything else fades into the background as they focus on each other.
Oh, yes. I also love that Mulder recognizes her footfalls and looks up before she even comes through the door. Did you catch that? Because I always do and flail a little bit.

I guess a vaccine theoretically still works if given directly “to” the virus itself, separate from a host?
Apparently so? Injecting it into Scully, and thereby the ship's "system" at the end, seems to make the entire project freak out, so... I dunno. Like I said, this movie's pretty, but it really doesn't make more than an ounce of sense, if that.

LMFAO, your exchange with meatfight about communication just about killed me. That's another question I don't think the series ever answers (which is probably for the best).

Looking at it from the writers' point of view, this is sort of the most perfectly elegant solution to why Mulder can’t ever be killed. Since we're always pretty sure a main character in a TV show isn't going to be killed, it's smart to have such a simple reason why. He's more valuable to the bad guys alive than dead. His death could potentially hurt their cause more than his meddling does.
Word. And can I just step in here and express how much I love that CSM, as the central "villain" -- being on XF, he has shades of gray to him of course -- promotes this same agenda? He's Mulder's adversary, but he still wants him alive. He reminds me of a cat, toying with a spider before he eats it. I just love that.

I love that cut, but OH MY GOD, the grammar in that sentence. I LOL without wanting to, every single time.

Mulder makes a charming, scrunched up face as they’re trying to decide which way to turn.
LMFAO YES. I lose my shit every time at that, because someone made a hilarious icon that says "ROAD TRIP!" using that exact cap. I died the first time I saw it.

Cannot wait for part two! Let's see if I can manage to be even more rambly and obnoxious then! :D

I generally just happily skip along, enjoying it for what it is, but I felt like I had to at least attempt to deconstruct what the hell they were trying to do with the mytharc here. If you don't think about it too hard, it kind of makes sense while you're watching. You just can't even take one second to consider anything that comes before or after.

God, yes! They are amazing.

And that makes him almost that much more evil, you know? Sure, he's wanting to use Mulder for his own ends, but he's pretty much just torturing him instead of killing him. I mean, the things that happen to Mulder are AWFUL. And they know that--they know that killing Scully would be a worse fate for Mulder than his own death.

It's INSANE. (I think the closed captioning actually corrects it!) I just can't imagine 1. that no one noticed; and 2. that there weren't any takes where he wasn't throwing random words in there.

Yep, exactly. Watching this movie makes me want to steal Susan's timeline more than ever, and see what she made of all of this.

I mean, the things that happen to Mulder are AWFUL. And they know that--they know that killing Scully would be a worse fate for Mulder than his own death.
Oh, it totally makes him that much more evil! Which I also love! The way WBD plays him is just perfect. Oh, Mulder. The things your quest put you through...

LMAO, does the CC really fix it? That is amazing.

Which is crazy, because she's always totally impressed when he shows off his sports skills! So you'd think she'd just be waiting for him to wrap his arms around her and show her how to swing a bat or line up a putt in mini golf. And as for ENGLAND, I know! He's basically asking her to go away with him for the weekend and is covering for it with his lame "crop circles!" excuse.

Also, I'm pretty sure the "panic face" bit was not originally scripted, which just makes me love it more. I'm too lazy to dig out my copy and check.
Love it! I also wonder, since they start out SO flirty and adorable here, if people who had this as their first glimpse of M&S were all confused when they went back to being their mostly-morose regular selves.

ALDGLHDKDJFKFD THAT CAP. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME.
I KNOWWW. And that cap doesn't even really do it justice.

I know! I love her little smile at his bowling in Elegy, of course.

Am I crazy for finding that adorably romantic? Probably. You know what Mulder does to me.

You know, I never thought about that before, but that would be an interesting perspective. It kind of takes me back to watching that video interview of Siskel and Ebert, where they both ended up loving it, despite not being fans of the show (yet), and saying that the characters were "obviously in love" or something like that. Non-fan reactions to things always fascinate me, somehow.

Someday I am going to reach FTF in the progress of capping, and lose my mind a little. Or end up with like, 1,000 caps. Whichever comes first.
