beta sign ups: pledged betas
okay, so we're going to try something a little different for beta sign ups. since about 3/4 of signed up authors said they have at least one beta on deck, we want to go ahead and get some info on those betas/get them signed up. that way we know exactly what fandoms we need covered when we go searching for free agent betas.
this is how it's going to (hopefully) work:
signed up authors who already have at least one beta, please comment to this post with this info:
- "[your username]'s beta(s)" as the title
- the name(s) of your pledged beta(s) in the body of the comment.
once you've commented thusly, link the aforementioned beta(s) to this post. and poke them repeatedly until they do one of following:
pledged betas that wish to participate* in the challenge please comment to the comment made by the author you are pledging to with this information:
- "participating pledged beta: [your username]" as the title
- in the body of the comment:
your username:
your email address: (NOT a lj.com address)
all of the following that apply to your beta style: spelling, grammar, story tone, in-character dialogue, in-character actions/plot, continuity with canon, continuity within the story, -isms (weeding Americanisms out of stories in British fandoms, etc.), structure, readability
pledged betas that do NOT wish to participate* in the challenge please comment to the the comment made by the author you are pledging to with this information:
- "nonparticipating pledged beta: [your username]" as the title
- in the body of the comment:
your email address: (NOT a lj.com address)
all of the following that apply to your beta style: spelling, grammar, story tone, in-character dialogue, in-character actions/plot, continuity with canon, continuity within the story, -isms (weeding Americanisms out of stories in British fandoms, etc.), structure, readability
*wherein participation means being a member of the community and having access to all posts and conversations and chats, as well as the beta-ing resource posts that quasiradiant will be providing. participating betas will also be contacted by mods periodically (read once or twice) just to make sure everything's going okay and that authors are indeed using your services.
if you choose to pledge as a nonparticipating beta you WILL NOT be granted membership or have access to any of the friendslocked posts at this community. we only ask for your email address in case we cannot contact the author you are beta-ing for and need to track them down through you.
if you are interested in beta-ing for a particular author, but have not arranged it with them yet DO NOT use this post to do so - please contact them through email, pm or their journal instead.
sign ups for free agent betas - betas signing up to beta in particular fandoms who are willing to be assigned to authors who do not have a pledged beta - will go up on March 1st, once we have the complete list of participating fandoms. pledged betas are welcome to also sign up as free agents once those sign ups go live.
as a reminder, all participating authors MUST have their stories beta read by at least TWO BETAS. the mods are happy to work with authors to match them up to free agent betas, but it will save everyone a lot of work if every author can come to the challenge with at least one pledged beta.
