LOL! Pete Hoekstra represents the west side of Michigan where I resided for so many years. Recently, he announced he is running for governor of MI and he's been trying to get out in the press as much as possible. Kathy Hoekstra (my Mike's older sister) is a prominent republican and knows him quite well.

Total randomness: Hoekstra is a really common name in Western Michigan. Mike's dad's name is Pete. But I'm told that Mike's dad was a "bleeding heart liberal" which explains where Mike gets it from.
