The IT guy said I should take both home, presumably so I could plug in a proper monitor and keyboard in a H&S-approved way. Whereas when I do work from home I just email myself all documents in advance and use my lovely PC!
The laptop just by itself is too heavy to carry home, certainly routinely.
Local managers and divisional secretary have agreed I should just keep my desktop, so that's OK at least.
That's just daft. Sounds like whoever in CIOD is passing on policies from on high is a moron! Which actually may be the cause of a lot of your workstress... It was made very clear when we moved buildings, direct from the IT people, that the default was to have one device, unless there is a good reason. The minute I asked about ability to plug in ergonomic mice to both laptops and power supplies, I was told to keep my desktop as a better solution.
If you still have probs with the textphone after feeding it batteries let me know and I'll see if I can help in any way. IIRC it should still work without batteries, it just complains - legal requirement for 999 calls to run without mains dependency - ofcom babble-blah obnerd.
Have fed it batteries - now just need to be brave and test it. I'll do that tomorrow, phoning midwives [OK it's an assumption that I won't be able to understand their receptionist, but likely to be the case...]
There's an Amplify button that now works, so I may be able to manage with it as a voice phone for a bit. Especially if I plug in my amplifier [fx: plug in amplifier] - hey, that sounds quite good! Might as well persist in another phone being ordered - so I can 'work from home' in the future... :)
