Copycat covers?

We were at the local comic store Saturday for their anniversary sale. Picked up a few half price trades and got lots of early Uncanny X-Men back issues and alternate cover comics for only a buck a piece. Most of what I got in single floppy comics will end up as sale books or trade bait when I hit the dirt mall again in the spring ( Read more... )

No doubt that homage covers are almost standard practice in modern comics, but this is an odd image to see repeated in less than two months by the same publisher.

The image of the sailor kissing his girlfriend also figures in the recent NIGHT AT THE SMITHSONIAN (the hero and a magically-animated Amelia Earhart mannequin stray into the famous photograph, with confusion ensuing.)

Somehow I now want to see this image recreated with Amy Adams and Hillary Swank both dressed as Amelia Earhart.
