Copycat covers?

We were at the local comic store Saturday for their anniversary sale. Picked up a few half price trades and got lots of early Uncanny X-Men back issues and alternate cover comics for only a buck a piece. Most of what I got in single floppy comics will end up as sale books or trade bait when I hit the dirt mall again in the spring.

My child once again showed his old man's prowess in noticing the art in comics. He easily picks out homage and swipe covers now. Amazingly these two were sitting side by side on the comic shop's newer books rack and no one who hung out or worked there had noticed them.

So the boy says to me, "Look daddy, those have the same picture with different people!"

And he was right.

Doom Patrol (Volume 5) #3

and in this corner Final Crisis: Dance #3

The pose is almost identical, the composition is just slightly off center on the Final Crisis: Dance Cover

Of course, there is a bit of a historical precedent for this imagery being so iconic and singular that it might inspire a comic book cover....

But two comics? That shipped just a few months apart? From the same company? Looks like either a dropped ball or some editorial shenanigans...

covers, dc comics, swipes, doom patrol, final crisis, homage, comic books
