I actually went to the cinema to see Watchmen ON MY OWN yesterday. And you know what? Most of the other people in the were also solo. But I was the only one with popcorn. So I win.
I'm still not really convinced a Watchmen movie was even a good idea. I'll certainly see the film, but I think Alan Moore's comments about it being unfilmable are true. Watchmen is one of the best books ever, graphical or otherwise, but I think it's so firmly linked with the medium it was created in that removing it from that just doesn't feel right.
Having said that, I'm still looking forward to seeing the film, and the clips of Rorschach I've seen seem absolutely spot on. Your review has told me that the film is not a complete failure, so thanks! :D
The film is good and definitely worth seeing (better by far than 300) but just not a patch on the book. Then again, that's the best that could be hoped for, right?
Hey, I'm playing Far Cry 2 and think it's pretty decent - any thoughts?
I haven't played a lot of Far Cry 2 yet. I'm playing Mirror's Edge at the moment, so I think I'll go back to Far Cry 2 after I've finished it. I did play around 4 hours of it to try it out, and I thought what I played was very good. My one worry was that it would be repetitive. I tried 3 of the arms dealer side missions and they were all exactly the same mission repeated. I don't mind as long as the main missions don't turn out to be like that.
I got Mirror's Edge through the door from Lovefilm today, and am playing it right now. I'm enjoying it but finding it infuriating. Especially the bits when you have to work out where to go with people shooting at you. But it looks lovely and the feeling you get when you get into a flow is very good. All in all, I think I prefer Prince of Persia.
I thought it was damn near perfect. My only problem with the ending was that they didn't include Manhattan's line to Ozymandias about how short-lived the world peace would be, since that was one of the most powerful ideas of the comic. The only actor that really really bothered me was the Adrian Veidt guy. He was just awful. Luckily it wasn't too distracting, what with the beautiful production design to tear your attention away from it.
I think that I'm just picky. Because I hold the comic so dear (as with all of Alan Moore's work) I just wished that they paid more attention to the essence rather than a literal adaptation and given the story that little extra room to breathe.
Maybe it was just that I watched the movie a stone throw away from Alan Moore's house and he was praying to his weird snake god that everyone in Northampton would find fault.
i was really surprised how close to the comic they had kept it, and at first i was thrilled, but as it went on it just kept the movie chained down. and they just kept so many weird parts when they had dropped others more important to the story. and i just found it so incredibly violent. yes the book is violent but it dosnt keep a fight going on for pages and pages. i just hope they will have the real ending when the dvd comes out since maby it could be an alternitive ending by making it a bit longer. and what happend to veidts life story? it was a lil description as he was walking along but didnt really tell us anything about him. i did enjoy it tho! even tho i think iv seen enough blue penis to last me a lifetime
