Surprises and expectations. (This is not a business seminar.)

I did the weekly shopping this morning at the local Tesco and experienced some of the politest people that I think that I have ever come across in This Fucking Town. It was busy, as Friday morning tends to be, so there was the usual barging about and getting in people's way and having to lean in past people to reach your chick peas. But the three ( Read more... )

Not too long ago I quoted Dr Strangelove in my journal: “Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here this is the war room”. Ok I really liked Dr Strangelove and Full metal jacket, for some reason I didn’t like A Clockwork orange, however I didn’t like the book so much either.

I think that a lot of people (in Britain anyway) were disappointed following the hype of a banned movie, in much the same way as they were with The Exorcist. I was a little unsure of the book (thought it was style over substance, which can work well in a more visual art form but not really in literature) but thought that the movie was peerless. The way the he made the movie still seem like a nightmare future dystopia 35 years after it was made it absolutely stunning.

Let me know what that film is like. I love Kubrick films but I've never even heard of that one.

Hammy acting, too short and flimsy story and yet utterly compelling. In fact, if you want a movie to show you how much of a cinematic master Kubrick was then its a good one to watch. I would still make the films you have not seen that were made after 1963 your priority though.

That's just Eyes Wide Shut and Barry Lyndon I think. 2001 and Dr Strangelove are my two personal favourites, although it's hard to pick one above the other because they're so completely different.

Added you back - I liked what you had to say and how you said it (a vague comment I know).

Out of nothing but sheer curiosity, how did you find me? I can't see that we have friends in common and I don't really "put myself out there". What was it that compelled you?

And very nice to meet you. :-)
