Vote Cast… I Hope

Nov 02, 2004 09:18

I cast my vote this moring using the new Sequoia AVC Advantage electronic voting machine. Don't bother trying out their demo page - the AVC Advantage is conspicuously absent, and the link to the “interactive demo” for the smaller AVC Edge is broken. I hope they run their voting machines better than they do their web site.

Until then, you can read more about the machine counting(?) your vote, courtesy the good people at Verified Voting. At least someone's paying attention.

Like every computer professional I've asked so far, I trust an electronic voting machine no farther than I can spit one. But don't worry, they compare the total votes cast to the total recorded on the machine. As long as they add up the same, the count must be accurate… right?

The guy running my polling station, an IT manager himself, took his skepticism even further: “I can't wait until they come up with online voting. Then you can rig any election you want.” But we're dealing with Sequoia here… why wait?
