Epilogue: I Dream a Highway (Back to You) irisbleufic April 16 2011, 11:05:36 UTC
Song from which the title comes performed by Gillian Welch

Peacehaven, she'd told Lestrade. It's just outside of Brighton.

Why not Brighton? he'd asked. Plenty of accessible beaches there.

Because they'd never have stood for it, she'd insisted, holding her chin high.

And so, here she is, with the Detective Inspector (so kind, bless him), pulling up to the simple wooden bollards lining the end of a desolate residential street called Phyllis Avenue after an hour and a half on the road. They'd made no stops, her hip be damned. It's an important errand ( ... )

That's quite a responsibility to be handed, even if only by a single reader, so I won't treat it lightly. Thank you *hugs*

That last, short line just did it for me, right after Lestrade asked Mrs. Hudson to drop the formalities. I love the thought of Sherlock's violin and John's cane keeping Mrs. Hudson company.

Though the fics break my heart again and again, I LOVE reading them.

I like the thought of her chatting to them. It's fitting.

Thank you :)

...I'm glad closure has come of these additions, instead of irreparable damage. Can't get away.

Thank you.

"They're all I had left."

Aaaaaand here I go again. Just a few words. I just. It's terrible and wonderful, how many feelings you can inspire in such a short piece. /sniffles

Well, this 'verse is best told in as few words as possible, I think, across the board.

Thanks *hugs*

Those prompts are quirky and clever. Alas, none of them were going to coax humor out of me.

Thank you :)

*Sniffles* This was just perfect. It gave me a sense of closure too, kind of like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. And that last line, oh my god.

(And here I'd been aiming for an understated ending. Not so much!)

Thank you *hugs*

I think I may be running out of (useless) virtual tissues, but never out of hugs. Thank you.

Oh god. I have to quit reading that last line, otherwise I'll lose it. Their deaths were always fine with me, because they went together, but thinking about how their being gone impacts Mrs. Hudson (and Lestrade and Mycroft) is heartbreaking. The simplicity of the box and the seaside area she chose is poignant as well. <3
