The wave of recent blog posts about pride weekends and so on made me wonder if such things exist in Britain, so I looked it up. Naturally, there are no parades in Canterbury (public lynchings, maybe), but of course Brighton has one... and its theme this year is MUSICALS ( Read more... )

This is in talks at the moment. The joint decision seems to be that the wealthy/classy side of Annie will make for thematic inconsistency (not to mention unbearable heat) and will therefore have to be sacrificed for the dirty/trashy side of Annie. That means orphans, Miss Hannigan, Rooster (for our token boy), and Lilly St. Marie. So, no Daddy Warbucks, Miss Ferrell, FDR, Punjab etc etc. Just dirty orphans and slutty floozies!

We haven't told everyone else about what they're going to be doing that day, but who wouldn't want to journey two hours north to go to a gay pride parade, in the sweltering August heat, dressed in Depression-era rags?

Now, the question that remains is: do we somehow try to acquire a dog to play Sandy, or do we just put a collar and leash on someone and play up the whole S&M angle?

You have to ask?!

Yeah, but we only have so many friends, and all of them would make such great orphans! Seems like making someone go as the dog is a waste of orphan-potential.

Oh yes - this is serious business.

I'm sure that a queer theorist would be happy to talk your ear off about things like performativity, and how musicals are all about excessive PERFORMANCE! and being gay is all about excessive PERFORMANCE!, but seriously it's 8-something in the morning and I don't care. There's probably some valid, justified reason floating around out there but I can't be bothered to find it.
