Slashy Nominations 91: Those Who Love Both Lies and Secrets

Oct 21, 2004 04:54

I promised an entry totally free of due South, Sports Night, and The Sentinel. And this is it. I feel myself twitching from withdrawal already.

(Secret message to everyone in the whole world: I've got serious, possibly permanent server problems, so I'm getting my mail in drips and drabs and way late. If I haven't responded to an email or a ( Read more... )

Re: True But Not Nice

That was fucking awesome. I mean - Marcus Flint? ::pictures the teeth, is extremely repulsed:: And Oliver Wood? Wha? But - damn. Just, damn. So good.

And word to the sleep deprivation. Are you secretly me, but not?

I don't think I'm secretly you. Unless it's a secret even from me, in which case you better believe I am going to have serious words with my parents. Item number one in the Parent Code of Honor is "Thou shalt not keep illicit cloning experiments from your child, and that goes treble if said child is the subject (or the result) of them."

And, um. What's wrong with Marcus Flint's teeth? I don't remember any description of them from the canon, though I could've just blotted it from my mind. And I don't think I've ever seen a picture or drawing of him. So, enlighten a poor out-of-it fangirl: what's dentally repulsive about ol' Marcus? (Ew. I've got horrible images of green buckteeth now.)

I don't remember much about book-Marcus, but the kid who played him in the first movie sported a most unfortunate set of (non-green) teeth.

Seriously? Huh.

Was there, like, a worst name contest at DC Comics at some point? Because, I mean - Dick Grayson. Bernard Dowd. All those Hanks everywhere. It's like the Hardy Boys Do Double Entendres over in that there canon.

*snickering* You CAN'T be in this fandom if you're not willing and able to put up with ENDLESS dick jokes.

Oh, I love me some dick jokes. Of course, I have to maintain rigid (hee!) compartmentalization in my mind, because my father is named Dick. Sad but true. So, on the one hand, I've heard all the dick jokes before. On the other hand, I'm doing my best to read them with new eyes, because I know that this Dick is likely to be fucking Tim on a fire escape somewhere before too many paragraphs are out. For the longest time I couldn't read slash involving Nightwing for that very reason, but I've learned to cope.

This will probably result in years of therapy at some point in the future. Your fault. Hope you're proud of yourself, young lady.

(I love that icon. That's - gorgeous. Would be one word that comes to mind.)

What I forgot was the other side of Holmes, the one that seeks out socially unacceptable mess (opium dens and docks and slums) and clings to Watson as a balance for his self-destructive tendencies and an anchor to, you know, the real world, which is not necessarily something Holmes has much direct personal contact with.

I’d say that Watson is Holmes’s link to the brighter side of the real world, the one where people don’t cut off and mail their unfaithful spouses’ ears after killing them, or seduce or murder their stepdaughters, or try to poison their baby stepbrothers, or...well, you see my point.

So far I’ve posted five Sherlock Holmes recs, one crossover rec, and (most of) an overview at crack_van, and I hope to do seven more recs before the month is out.
