Slashy Nominations 63: Great Fics from Little Fandoms Flow

(I apologize for the title, especially if you've now got the source of it stuck in your head. I'm not a big fan of the poem, either - actually, it sort of makes me gag - but it was all I could think of. If you've got an idea for a better title, I'd love to hear about it ( Read more... )

Thank you for the Discworld and UFF recommendations. Both were highly entertaining.

Two notes:
1. That cookbook Nanny Ogg uses is mentioned in Maskerade, one of the later books. It's called "The Joye of Snacks." Unsurprisingly, it became the first best-seller on the Disc.
2. I wrote a small Discworld piece that you might find amusing, especially since I cross it over with what might be the most obscure movie ever.

Again, thanks for the recs.

You mean the cookbook really exists?

Wow. Terry Pratchett is more twisted than I thought he could be. Um. Wow. Maybe I could break my whole Never Again vow that I have with the Discworld series (because, really, it was my favorite series ever and then he just kind of - lost his edge) just for one book.

Maybe not.

(Thanks for the rec! And, um, that is an obscure movie. And those screenshots are hysterical.)

I'm over at Diaryland - for whatever reason, I'm not a huge fan of the LiveJournal format (uh-oh, am I about to be tarred and feathered?) My home on the web is http://genibee.diaryland.com, aka Andare, Partire, Tornare.

Yay, Discworld fic!

But, see, if you're here, then it's easier to be a fangirl!

Wait. Do you consider being a fangirl a good thing? It is, you know. Come. Join us in the Nation of Fangirlia, Capitol City: Squeeeee, Population: Probably something involving a lot of 1s. Join us. Join us.

(I held out on the whole LJ thing a long, long time, for reasons that included the World's Most Terrible LJ-Inspired Flame War, Parts I and II, which destroyed a message board I really liked. And then I thought, hey, I can get one and not even post or anything, just for the flist, and it will be fine, right? And then I was over on FT and I had a Sudden Inspiration on the FF thread, and, well...all I'm saying is, you never know why you will need a LJ. But you do.)

And we, your squeeing fangirlia, are eternally grateful that you did.

Doesn't LJ require a code, or something like that, in order to get an account without paying for it? (I pay over on Diaryland - not much, but some, and I'd rather not double-up.) I'm not exactly sure how the whole thing works.

Wait...am I agreeing to this? How did that happen? Must..stiffen...resistance...

The LordPeter mods read your email commentary I forwarded to them, and the universal consensus was that I should at least take another stab at recruiting you to the list, because they all loved your take on Harriet and Talboys. Plus, they like having a strong, articulate poster with contrary opinions who can rile up the list from time to time *g*

Oh, damn. I saw an Ult. FF rec and got all excited and then realized that I'd already read it. *sigh*

Why must this be a small fandom? Whyyyyyy?!

(Written Proofs is *excellent*, btw. I <3 geeksex.)

I don't know why UFF is a small fandom, except maybe that there are so many comic books and comic book characters that it's impossible for all of them to get the attention they deserve.

(Dear god, have I just constructed an argument for a bigger fannish community? Ignore me. Clearly I have lost my mind.)

At least UFF is still in its early days. If it survives for a while, and if they keep the kind of writers they've been having recently, and if people keep aggressively pimping it, then maybe we'll see more of this stuff.

And, in the meantime, at least what is out there in this fandom is good.

I'm so with you on the Carrot and Ventari slash...thing...idea...painful topic. It is frightening, but oh so nice. Kind of like fiction based on H.P. Lovecraft. Scary, but redeeming.

/end useless comment.
