Things that make me go, "Hm... maybe?"

Mar 15, 2012 19:18

So... I woke up at 2:00 this morning and puttered on the computer when it was clear I wasn't going back to sleep anything like immediately.  At about 3:00 I put the computer back down because I (foolishly) thought I might get a few more hours before my alarm went off.  Not so much with that ( Read more... )

I've been enjoying the tumblr -- I don't think I use it as often as other people do, but it's fun. Some of it's the same crowds, some of the people are different; it's a little bit easier to hook up with new people who share your interests, I think, because you can search for posts that are tagged with whatever you're interested in (say, searching for #sherlock or #watson or whatever), rather than having to dig through a list of journal interests. Nothing's flocked, so I think it can be a little more impersonal, but that's not such a bad thing. Lots of fannish squeeing ( ... )

As lookninjas said, very visual. I follow almost no fandoms on Tumblr, I follow Wil Wheaton, John Hodgman, NPR, some fitness people I got for some reason, some tech people - it's lots of cool pictures and comments. I haven't poked around to find fandom but Tumblr makes more sense to me than Facebook does (or Google Plus for that matter). I enjoy it.

Never thought about fandom...need to do that!

I liked tumblr a lot at first bc the pretteh in my new fandom was served up on a silver plate. And I could tap into other cute and cool images easily and have them sent to my dash automatically. So it was one stop shopping for visual images.

But yes, they can also get really repetitive really quick when the same thing is reblogged over and over. However, I've seen gorgeous art in fandoms I wasn't actively seeking out (like Sherlock) so those random encounters are nice too. But there is TOO MUCh on tumblr ALL the TIME. It is overwhelming. I have to visit in small doses.

But then some of the things I followed got fic-heavy and I find that annoying. I will never read fic on a tumblr. But that's probably bc I'm an old fart. I'm there for teh pretteh only.

Are you still up for the weekend? I've got a wallet full of dollars!!! :D

I'm up for it, but my house looks like hell... I mean, even compared to normal for me.

I don't know what's been going on the past week or two, but I end up coming home from work in bizarrely large amounts of pain, which means the cleaning thing is just not getting done. :(

No worries. I've been the same for months w/ my shoulder. So *my* place has officially been declared the 8th layer of hell. When you feel like shit, you don't want to do shit. and you don't give a shit if you're living in shit. Believe me, I totally understand!

note ironically appropriate icon.. ;)

Grr, my post didn't go through earlier.

I mainly see Tumblr as a cross between LJ and Twitter. It's not long posts like LJ, but it's longer and MUCH more media-intensive than Twitter. I follow a lot of picspams there that I wouldn't want clogging up here or anywhere else.
