That comment sort of explains the issue. Hope it helps. *sigh*

This is a new thing separate to the "Share this!" button that shows up when you make a comment.

Here's what it looks like when I go to make a comment:

Um... okay... only... not.

Okay, I don't have either connected, so they're both gray. Which is good. But if you wanted to, you could repost *this* comment to your Twitter? Or can you only repost your own comments?

OMG, the layering of all this is messing with me. Are any of these statements true?

1. Share This! Lets you post any public POST to your own FB or Twitter.

2. You can't Share This! for any locked post.

3. You can crosspost your own comments to your FB or Twitter, no matter the security setting on the original post.

4. You cannot repost someone else's comments.

It's that #3 that worries me the most. I see why people are moving their locked conversations to DW now. Is it retroactive. Could someone feeling vindictive go back and repost a comment made in a locked post from, say, last year?

This is all going to give me a giant headache, isn't it?

It is a headache. As far as I understand it, you can only share your own posts - those ticky boxes only show up when you are leaving a comment. I haven't commented on a locked post yet so I don't know if they show up then but from the buzz I'm guessing yes.

Now me, I'd never use them on a locked post. Heck I'd probably not use them on an unlocked one. I think it's silly to share comments. Even if I did share I only have my FB connected which is locked down tight.

Also, I don't think you can retroactively share. Only as you're making the comment. But again, this just turned on, I don't know for sure yet. But I doubt it.

I agree, it's one big giant headache. I'd even take the Big Giant Head over this headache!
