You know, you give in to the need to sleep for six or seven hours and the world spins out of control

Well, maybe not the world, but at least LJ and some of the people thereon.

I woke up this morning to half my friendslist going, "OMG STUPID LJ DO YOU COMPREHEND PRIVACY???!!!" So of course, I panicked. Because most of you are very logical people who understand how these things work, and the repercussions of them, far better than I do. And it seems that one of the greatest causes of concern is people easily reposting locked posts and comments.

Which means I have to be missing a point somewhere.

I *see* the "Share this!" link on some of the posts on my reading list. But I've also noticed that there is *no* "Share this!" button on any post that is locked. Journal or Comm post.

I am not seeing "Share This!" buttons on ANY comment thread.

Is this one of those things that will kick in fully when I restart my browser or something? Or did LJ actually realize the monumental stupidity of the idea of sharing a la Facebook not being opt-in and do something about it before I woke up, but after many of you had discovered it?

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IT IS THAT I AM FAILING TO COMPREHEND.

Personally, my Facebook account is wholly connected to the 'real me', which means that if I wouldn't say it outloud, at work, I don't post it on Facebook. So if people pass things around (Please! Pass around my blog links!) I don't care.

But my LJ stuff is different. If something was randomly posted as "thefannishwaldo" said... on a Facebook account, I'm not sure anyone I work with would associate that name with me, but I'd really rather not take the chance. Hm... That complete and total fannish migration to DW? We can haz nao pleez?

stupid, do not want, lj, what happens if i push this button?
