Patterson Joseph would make a fine Doctor but I don't know why I still believe David Morrissey is Eleven. Maybe Eleven paid the price of ten's "fake" regeneration in Journey's end and he lost his memories after Ten's "real"/"last rusty episode" regeneration...
"Murray Gold is 'discontinuing his association' with Doctor Who after the specials. (interestingly enough, the article about this has disappeared, but it's still in the scrolling text at the top of the screen)."
Hold on, you mean Murray Gold won't be part of Doctor who anymore? We won't have his amazing music anymore??? Nooooo, please, stay! We can't loose you too! It looks like it's REALLY going to be a whole new show. New actors, new producers, new music, new everything. I bet that even the Tardis' inside is going to change. (Five will be happy!)
I'd like to think that it will be Morrissey because he would provide the necessary comic pomp (as evidenced by the little clip we've seen) to Moffat's view of the Doctor. Alas, I think that Moffat wants someone sexy that he can use for his version of Doctor "James Bond" Who and Patterson Joseph does fit the bill.
It does seem very early to be announcing what is almost reading like a done deal, though. So who knows? Hold on, you mean Murray Gold won't be part of Doctor who anymore? We won't have his amazing music anymore??? Yup, we're losing Gold too. I do find it interesting that so many seem to be jumping ship with Rusty. Not to say that the ship is sinking or anything like that, but it is curious ...

You just echoed my thoughts below. And to think, I was ALMOST convinced by others that I was just being a whiny fanbrat because DT was leaving.
That's one of the good things that's come out of (a) my preference for Nine/Christopher Eccleston (although, I do love Tennant), and (b) my post of joy when it was announced that DT wasn't resigning (because I really, really didn't want him to under Moffat). It pretty much clears me of bitching about Moffat solely because of Tennant's departure.
(Now, I'm just accused of being a silly shipper. Of course.)
*laughs* Is that like dumping all the soundtracks out of the window into the middle of the street and locking Doctor Who out of the flat?
David told Russell that he was planning to leave after three series during the filming of "The Runaway Bride".
I will... not be smug about this ;) Oh, that's being smug, isn't it?
is that The Sarah Jane Adventures has been renewed for a third series (produced by RTD) and that series and Torchwood series four will air between Russell's last special and the beginning of Moffat's episodes. The other news mentioned is that, after that, the shows might not be continuing on, in order to give Moffat a clean break.
LOL. Why? And why does the BBC need to give up those marketing opportunities? This makes no sense at all. The shows (SJA/TW) do not need to be closely tied to Moffat's Who. Hasn't Moffat indicated that himself? Continuity does not matter to him so why not let TW/SJA have their own little universe in which to play so fans can enjoy the shows? Also, once those

Also, once those shows go off the air, sales for the merchandise will fall. Hard core fans will buy but the casual fans will go elsewhere and things like the DVDs will obviously no longer be a factor. No new series, no new DVDs to sell, no new monsters for action figures, etc.
And anyway, isn't Moffat already writing his episodes? So what does it matter?
Maybe they're afraid that, if TW and SJA are around, people will wait for those series to show up instead of watching DW, especially if Moffat doesn't have them relate at all.
From a completely nonbusiness "hey we don't want to make any sort of profit in a time when every pound counts" standpoint, I guess that makes sense.
*shakes head*
Am I missing something? Junking two shows is a wise move? Especially two shows that have their own lines of merchandise? Yeah. Okay.
And I don't even watch SJA so it's not as if I'd miss it. It's just... I can't imagine why a network would plan to drop a show that is doing well because their new writer might, maybe, possibly want to start his show... which isn't really affected.... fresh.
eh? Man, if I was Moffat I'd be telling them to keep the shows lest fans of the other two blame me for taking their fun away.
*utterly unfounded speculation ahead*butterflyNovember 30 2008, 03:59:48 UTC
Though it makes me wonder if the real reason isn't on the network's side, but is instead that Lis Sladen and John Barrowman are dragging their feet on signing up for post-S5 stuff is because they don't know who would be put in charge of it.
The most recent buzz is that The Sarah Jane Adventures has been renewed for a third series (produced by RTD) and that series and Torchwood series four will air between Russell's last special and the beginning of Moffat's episodes. The other news mentioned is that, after that, the shows might not be continuing on, in order to give Moffat a clean break. This really bugs me if true. I don't watch SJA, but I do watch TW and while I don't obsess over it, I do quite enjoy it and it will really tick me off if they take it off the air just so that Moffat can have a clean break. That really would suck.
I really enjoy the term "discontinuing his association". That's....kind of awesome. And horrible, I suppose. It really does sound like DW is going to become Murray's scorned ex or something

It kinda does. It's a funny phrase (which is why I felt the need to actually quote it).
The SJA/TW news is interesting to me. And yes, sad. Because they're such a sign of how much the DW universe has expanded under RTD's wing, and it seems like dumping it all at once is some severe backtracking for the show.
Right. If the price for having Moffat is losing SJA and TW, I can't see how that could possibly be worth it.
I did not know that RTD has already written Ten's last words. That...makes me happy for some reason. Like there's some master plan that he's building towards, but we have to wait for it to play out :)
It's a bit comforting, yeah, knowing that it's not going to be off-the-cuff, that there was thought put into and (possibly) a plan laid out.
I'm still gutted about TW, but hopeful that Russell will now have time to write for series four. If he writes an SJA story I might have to watch it again. His pilot had the only character I liked, and Kelsey promptly vanished.
I hadn't heard that we missed out on a Russell-penned series five with Donna. Woe! On the other hand, if David always planned to do three series, are the specials bonus Ten that Russell talked him into giving us? If there had been a full 2009 series with Eleven, it would have made sense to bridge Doctors with a continuing companion again.
The current production team must include Phil Collinson. Much as I'd love to see them come back, I don't see how. Russell might well return to bail out the show if Moffat manages to sink it, but he has a writer's independence. Julie and Phil have both been promoted to senior jobs in BBC drama management, presumably at least in part because of the huge success of their current show. I don't see how they would be able to just come back. It's over now.

I'd love for him to write for SJA, definitely.

I'm not sure how it all scanned out. It seems like the specials were negotiated later, just from what I've heard.

Russell did say (I think in his book) that he and DT agreed to take a break and not do a regular series in 2009 back when they were filming Doomsday, which would have been at the end of 2005. So there was most definitely some planning ahead involved way back.
Hmm. Was that already part of the 'three series' that David had planned on doing that he talked about at various points?
(I suppose it might be, because the BBC also appears to be calling Moffat's series number 5)
But in that case, then they already knew about the plan to do the specials when they were asking Billie Piper about S4, which means that we might still see her again, if she already knew David was doing the specials when she made her 'I'd like to be there for his last episode' comments.
