Mio must have rubbed off onto him more than even he had imagined.... For as much distaste as he had initially sported for the lonely ghost buy and Mio's close call with him, his opinion had softened a little with time and perspective, to the point where he couldn't help but sympathize. Finding what was almost certainly his dead body, especially in such a state, had been.... He wasn't sure if he even had the words for it, for the horrific disgust and brutal shock that kind of treatment brought to the surface. He wondered if it had all been done to him when he was alive, thought that it might have, and couldn't help but feel sick to his stomach, and almost painfully angry at whoever had had the gall to do such a thing. A living person, he might not have cared so much about the fate of, (torture did happen, after all, and he was familiar with it) but to know that such a thing was so horrible as to leave that kind of ghost behind.... It turned his stomach badly.
And even with his kind of reaction, he knew that Mio had been touched far more profoundly than even he had.... He had given it his best efforts to help calm and console her, even with as jarred as he had been. It was all he could do.... And somehow, he doubted it was his best effort at that, either. The lack of almost any light whatsoever, plus the incredible, biting cold--far worse than last night, and most definitely the worst he had ever experienced in his life--were fogging over his mind, making him hazy and sluggish; it didn't help that the blackening in his leaves was spreading at what he considered to be an alarming rate, and that they were constantly throbbing in pain now. Unfortunately for him, his problems with mental alertness were neither confined to just comforting Mio, nor just his mind.
Far from it, in fact. Trying to return to his room had probed that beyond the shadow of a doubt. The Greenhouse had been normal, that much was true. But the Maids' Hallway was decidedly haunted that night. As delicious and harmless (appearing, at least) as the hanging bodies seemed to be, they were nothing compared to the small group of strange, faceless nurses that filled the hallway--and the East Hallway, for that matter--, all of whom had chests like Tsunade and painful weapons, from fire pokers to crowbars to steel pipes. Zetsu had pitched into combat willingly enough to protect Mio, physically nearly defenseless as she was. (Did she still have that fire poker herself?) While the East Hallway had been more amenable to a flat-out hit-and-run as well as he could manage, this hall was different. This had more maneuvering room, but also more nurses, and running through.... well, that just wasn't an option, really.
He wished like hell that it was. It was starting to be a long night already, and would only get worse--he was positive he must have a few cracked bones already, plenty of welts and bruises, and most likely a minor concussion of some sort--at the very least, if his vision was any indication. Still, he was in the process of killing the last nurse right now, even if they were too damned tough to deal with easily. Just a quick rest would be nice, and he could take care of these injuries.... Some ice for his head might be nice, too. Maybe he'd get that soon.
