Ciel had never been one for parties, but he followed the curious sound of music cautiously to find the answer to the mystery of the lack of monsters across the house this evening. Golden butterflies filled the room, along with a grand assortment of monsters and ghosts, and- much to Ciel's astonishment- they seemed to be very much enjoying themselves ( ... )

This would be before he settles down by Lonely Boy, I spose. omnomnomsweets August 18 2010, 01:58:47 UTC
It wasn't long before Break found him like some kind of excessively cheerful Ciel-seeking missile. The fact was, he felt that he ought to make his presence known; he wasn't going to stick to Ciel all night, but he would certainly be keeping an eye out.

"Hmmmm~? What's this, Master Phantomhive?" He swooped in on the boy, nearly sloshing his wine on Ciel's shirt in the process. "Drinking already? Shouldn't you grow up a bit first? I was under the impression that there were laws against that sort of thing. What a terrible little boy!"

And again, he wished Emily was there to emphasize the point, but this would be his last night without her. For now he would just have to be obnoxious enough for the both of them.

You got it! queenslapdog August 18 2010, 02:35:43 UTC
Ciel smiled charmingly. He seemed more comfortable now that he was back in Victorian-style clothes- or was that the Pinot Nior? "Why, good evening Break. You really should try the duck. It is honestly good enough to be worth a poisoning."

Ciel swirled the wine glass and inhaled the rich bouquet. "It seems more of a crime to not enjoy a fine wine with this fine meal. Besides, by the looks of it, perhaps it is you who ought to avoid drinking." He was smiling still with a perfectly polite smile. That sort of polite smile that just screams, 'bite me.'

At least he was being more than civil. He even went so far as to gesture to the empty chair next to him, "Please, have a seat."

It must be said, Break was a little bit thrown by how polite Ciel was being. Still insufferable as always, but it seemed that once you put him back in his element he was capable of acting like a proper nobleman after all.

What a shame, then, that Break had no respect for status.

"Good enough to be worth a poisoning! Ha! What an interesting assessment," he said, in a tone of voice that made 'interesting' sound like 'incredibly stupid.' But he sat down anyway, setting his carafe as far away from Ciel as he could manage.

"You're mistaken! I may have had a little--" rather an understatement, he was making good progress with the carafe-- "but I assure you, I'm just fine. I could fence you blindfolded and win."

Anyone fancy a magic show? It's only VAUGELY directed at Lonely Ghost Boy. omnomnomsweets August 18 2010, 01:39:57 UTC
Break was never one to turn down a party, and tonight was no exception. He had been cautious at first, but no one seemed to even notice his presence-- and then he caught sight of the young Phantomhive brat through the crowd. It seemed unlikely his charge gone and become a ghost without Break's say-so. And now he had to join the party; what kind of bodyguard leaves his employer alone amongst such dangerous company?

The festive air almost made him forget that this was the same house that had spent the past year putting him through every torture imaginable, then making up a few new ones just for good measure. Almost, but not quite; he wouldn't be partaking in any of the goods set out, though he had liberated his own carafe of wine from the kitchen beforehand. He may not be capable of getting properly drunk but that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy himself a little. Besides, he would hate to ruin the atmosphere ( ... )

HOORAY MAGIC SHOW. not_amonster August 18 2010, 19:35:47 UTC
Delta wasn't the party type, but the commotion attracted him. The flitting butterflies gave the large man an uncomfortable rush of deja vu. Of course, the butterflies weren't blue. The deja vu still lingered despite the different color. Oh, how he'd grown to dislike butterflies.

He seemed less interested in having a good time, and more interested in monitoring the possible threats. Creatures gorged themselves on human flesh, which caused even him to bat an eye. This party was bizarre, gross, and even surreal. The music did little to help how uncomfortable he felt. He almost felt like he was hallucinating.

Eventually he spotted the Lonely Ghost Boy and Break. The poor ghost did look terribly out of place and depressed. Delta was naturally inclined to help, even if the figure was a specter of the dead. He watched Break preform his magic tricks with some interest. Delta was checking to see if the ghost responded to the tricks at all, too.

Just a background flavor reaction/cameo; carry on. :3 BTW, Crawling Boy isn't here tonight, sorry <3 dollsy_npcs August 18 2010, 23:39:52 UTC
Break's approach did indeed attract the Lonely Ghost Boy's attention, as did Delta's interest in the pair. He lifted his head to watch the living humans and the magic tricks Break presented; his face was drawn and pale, even gaunt, starkly contrasting the wide dark eyes that threatened to swallow it up. They were hollow, shadowed by grief, far too old for such a young face--and completely intelligent and aware of his surroundings, even if he seemed to be untouched by them.

They could hold his attention for as long as they wished it; with how frank and direct his gaze was, it seemed almost as though the weight of his sorrow was carried entirely and only for them.

Oops. Oh well, ignore that. Also, sorry I'm late! /summer finals omnomnomsweets August 23 2010, 04:35:40 UTC
Break was a little less enthusiastic to see Delta. He had mistaken him for one of the beasts of the house-- who could blame him?-- and that made him a little uneasy. The ghosts at least looked human. At a party like this, it was easy to forget that most of the time they were ready to rip you apart. The monsters? Less so. Still, he would never turn down a captive audience.

"Well, good evening!" He waved at Delta, and a few stray candies fell out of his sleeve, accompanied by a lollipop with an impossibly long stick. "Shouldn't you say hello? It's rude just to stare." He knelt to gather the candies, eyes still fixed on Delta. "And this house is haunted with a very polite ghost, see, and he doesn't take too kindly to rude guests. You know what happens to rude guests?" He picked up the lollipop last of all, holding it longwise between his palms. "They disappear." He moved his hands closer as he spoke and the lollipop shrank and shrank until he clapped and it vanished altogether.

Mello wasn't sure what the hell to do at first when he found the ballroom and saw that there was a damn party going on. He'd definitely never seen anything like that in this place before, and considering the fact that the party did seem to be being held at this place, he couldn't make up his mind about whether to stay for a while or to get the hell away from the ballroom. It took him a few minutes to decide that he'd do the former; while there was no way he trusted any party the house threw, this was the first time he'd ever seen something that wasn't terrible going on in the house, so why not try to enjoy himself at least once while he was here? The party seemed to be fairly safe, from what he could see... and who knew? If this did end up being a terrible idea, maybe it'd be worth it anyway. Even the damn monsters seemed like they were having a good time... what was the occasion? It was worth investigating.

He carefully-- and still somewhat unsurely-- made his way into the room, and after a minute, grabbed a glass of wine and ( ... )

It wasn't as painful as the sunlight had been, and it certainly didn't blind her as the sunlight had, but the lights of the Underland had been much dimmer. Luxa hadn't been here long - not by the house's time, at least - but even she knew what a trap was. Light in a house full of darkness - it was a trap, if a subtle one.

The music and the glow that Luxa could see from the hallway - it had to be a trap. She would not expect anything less from this nightmare house; it would be almost sacreligious for it not to be a ruse. Certainly the house wouldn't be kind to its inhabitants. She thought, if it were, it would be like a favored pet suddenly going rabid and attacking its owner. Completely against its nature ( ... )

It didn't take Mello very long to notice the girl that had just entered the ballroom, though that could likely have been attributed to the fact that she had chosen to sit down only a few seats away from him. And he certainly recognized her, as well; she was that blind newcomer girl who lived underground that he'd helped get to the Dark Bedroom. What was her name again... Luxa, wasn't it?

He hadn't exactly been fond of Luxa, but he saw absolutely no reason to ignore her. After all, she had decided that she was indebted to him; if she was a potential ally, then he might as well go talk to her or something.

He saw that the girl was wearing what appeared to be a blindfold of some sorts. This was a little bit odd-- it certainly looked quite ridiculous-- but Mello supposed she had a reason to wear it, considering the fact that she'd been completely blinded by the light when she'd first arrived at the house. She was probably using it to block out the light or something... which meant that she was likely able to see again. She wasn't ( ... )

One disadvantage of the noise-filled room, besides the simple annoyance of being surrounded by sound, was that Luxa was not as aware of sound as usual. Which was why she jumped when the chair besides her was suddenly occupied.

Luxa glared right back at the Overlander - was everyone here an Overlander? The novelty was wearing off more rapidly with every one she met - and turned back towards the table, absently beginning to pick apart the cake in her hands. The blindfold, while helpful, severely impeded her peripheral vision, and she found it impossible to look at the Overlander unless she was turned in his direction.

... Well, good. She'd rather not get into an inane staring contest anyway ( ... )

It was hard to move through the house without being hut by something, but the two Heroes managed. A few more bandages collected here, some ingredients for makeshift vulneraries there and the two of them were golden. Link's familiarity with traveling alone and other survival skills got them out of tight spots, just as Marth's skill at coming up with strategies saved them from many unnecessary fights. The Master Sword and Falchion's light was also a saving grace; many of the ghosts and monsters in the house would be kept at bay by the sacred blades or otherwise be cut down ( ... )

The sight, the music, the smells... though still rife with the perverse stylings characteristic of the houses, the grandness of it all sent a sort of pang through Marth's heart. When was the last time he'd had cause to celebrate anything to such an extent? Not since he'd had to leave Altea. And that... that was so very long ago, wasn't it? The memories of such things had been long since buried, hidden away under the weight of years filled with sorrow and regret. Following that, the... days? Weeks? Months, it felt like, where he'd been trapped here were rife with suffering and, though he was still desperately trying to fight it off, a mounting feeling of hopelessness.

It took him a moment to realize he was being addressed. Marth shook himself-- time to focus.

With an apologetic look to Link, he responded, just loud enough to be heard over the music and merrymaking.

"...I suppose we should investigate."

With that, Marth's present travel partner simply nodded and took a cautious step into the ballroom. It was strange, walking into something that could very well be considered an 'enemy' stronghold without being attacked. And in such a grand display, the country boy couldn't help but move to stand a bit closer to Marth. Anything to ground himself and not feel so out of place in this place with his plain, worn tunic. There was the food table to one side with servers moving around serving food and 'people' dancing in the middle of the room. It didn't take long for Link to notice the Mother Ghost amongst the dancers though; perhaps it would be in their best interest to move away from her general vicinity, sense of merriment or not ( ... )

Link wasn't the only one who felt humbled at the display. After what seemed like an age of running for his life and barely scraping by inside this prison, the prince felt estranged from it all, despite the vague familiarity of it. He felt almost like a child again; a prince in rags (at least compared to the finery around him), presented to a full court of strangers. He didn't belong, but he was being welcomed ( ... )
