Lu watched him for several long minutes, paying close attention as he crossed the bathroom to the sink, still smiling. The materia was quickly slipped back inside her coat, tucked away until she needed it again. "Excuse him, I am fairly certain no one ever taught him manners."

She waited until they were both busy with the water and turned on one of the sinks, grimacing faintly at the grime and considering the possibly contaminated nature of the gore on her body verses the very obviously contaminated water. She sighed. She should at least wash her face. "Doctor Lucrecia Crescent." She dipped her fingers in the water, ignoring the chill and started to rinse her hair out, watching the two men in the mirror. It wouldn't do any good to let her guard slip now.

"Don't give your name to people who can curse it," he corrected the woman nonchalantly. Jinxes, wards, jutsu, simple word-binding - names lent too many possibilities to gifted craftsmen, let alone to true spell-casters.

Weeks without Sasuke's leave... how many weeks, and how could the man tell his time? Obviously, through proper exposure to real sunlight, and with a decent count. Then, he'd been outside, he'd seen the sun, he'd done his arithmetic. Hah.

Thank you, vermin. Sasuke took more water in his hands, spread it over his hair for a short rinse, then fought to peer at this odd little stranger, appraising silently. Yes, he knew him - not who he was, but what. The group mattered more than the anonymous individual, and with Orochimaru a ghost in Sasuke's passing, and with the leader dead in Naruto's wake, the same group was meaningless.

"Akatsuki..." he whispered, high enough to be heard. It wasn't that he'd obsessively memorized even the subtlest nuance of the clothing taken by his brother throughout his hunt; it wasn't that he ( ... )

Hidan snickered appreciatively at the comment. "Yeah, I can tell." Either nobody had taught the kid manners, or they had just taught him to be a bossy fuck, that was all. He wouldn't be surprised either way. He considered pointing out the obvious lapse of manners the good doctor herself was committing--after all, it was (heh) rude to stare, wasn't it?--, but decided he didn't care enough to bother. It wasn't like the kid was bothering to concern himself with manners either, after all, so he might as well follow the crowd.

But whatever way he sliced it, he was very definitely being watched--studied, scrutinized, stared at--with not a lot of politeness, but plenty of wariness, and that was enough to keep him from dismissing the pair as being completely stupid. Doubly so when the kid pointed out how potentially harmful giving out a name could be. (Not that he cared, when nobody could do anything all that bad to an immortal like him.) But then, he supposed she wouldn't be aware of any of that shit, being most likely a civilian of some ( ... )

....you ever have that post that you learn SOMETHING about your character, yeahhhhh. motherofdiscord March 11 2010, 20:34:06 UTC
Lu blinked, turning her head to stare at the youth. He had seemed so intelligent, prickly like a porcupine, but intelligent nonetheless. Really? You're that superstitious? Are you five? Or just from some backwater little village that still burns women and girls with birth defects every time the crops fail? Lu had absolutely no tolerance for superstition. Everything had an explanation, even this house. The unknown simply took a better look or a different pair of eyes to fully unravel it. God was a microscope and a discerning eye, not some grand all powerful magic. Even materia, her own magic, has a scientific explanation. It could be harnessed and explained, it could be studied. Superstition was the crutch of the uneducated masses.

"Giving your name is polite, Itachi. Civilized." She turned her gaze to the other man, giving him another sweeping look. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Mr. Hidan." She smiled in welcome. "If any of that blood on you is yours, I can heal you, if necessary." She ignored the whispered word from her ( ... )

He sank blunt teeth in his lip, holding back curses. Damn your loose tongue, woman. He wanted - wanted to hit her. Just slap a hand over her mouth, knock her down and be done with it. Her jaw seemed frail, and with two fingers dug deep, the mandibula would give way silently. She'd be none the wiser, he supposed (no, expected).

He spared the man a cursory glance, making no secret of his stares: Hidan, nearly anonymous to Sasuke, but Akatsuki nonetheless, deadly and unpredictable. It came with the ring. "You're not needed. I've ended my dealings with your group," he hissed out breathlessly, forgetting himself for half a moment. No use losing his temper. No use in the slightest.

He passed the tips of fingers over the harsh surface of the sink basin, doing his best to clean the nails, before gathering more water to pass over his hair, scalp, over knots and tangles. Dried blood. The woman caught his eye again, the indignation returned to him, "And I never began them with you. Neither of you are touching me."
