Yukimi was on his way back from the kitchen when he heard the music. He was gonna go to bed, because he was really tired- he was starting to understand what that Machi kid had meant by "broken time". It was like the sun forgot to set or something. Even with his fucked up biological clock, he could tell that the day had gone on too long. He'd seen a room earlier that looked pretty suitable- just blank walls and a mattress in the middle. It wasn't the bed housing, but he could take sheets from the linen closet and he'd be set. Blank walls were better for sticking memos on, and if there was no computer than there was no need for a desk. There was even a note on the floor telling him to stay tonight. Maybe the room chose its occupant or something ( ... )

At first the Machi didn't notice when Yukimi exited the kitchen, so intent was he on his music. He was bent heavily over the keys, focusing solely on his playing, completely absorbed into his world of sound.

He looked up from the keys briefly when Yukimi finally entered his peripheral vision--and tensed too, ready to make a stand to play the piano if he had to. There was no pause in the music, but his expression grew more serious and intense as he continued his song. The sombre orchestral sounds filled the room, enveloping both Yukimi and Machi in dark melody.

It wasn't that he had a problem specifically with Yukimi. It was that he didn't specifically like the man (for good reason) and the pianist was far too preoccupied to spare anything. Now that the idea of punishment had entered Machi's head, he couldn't get rid of it. His fingers were nimble but quite strong, and he played heavily to drive the thoughts out, incorporating chords from Love Love Guilty to make it more powerful.

Machi glanced up to acknowledge his presence. Honestly, Yukimi was willing to take that as a victory with this kid, who didn't seem to give even that much notice to most people. Unless they lied. Machi reminded him uncannily of Yoite; pale skin, too thin, antisocial, apt to freak out for no reason at random intervals... the similarity is probably the only reason he had stopped to sit with him, really. Certainly, he had better things to do.

He jerked his head up and opened his eyes, which had apparently drifted shut when he wasn't paying attention.

Machi was pouring a lot of energy into his piano playing--it wasn't something just for his fingers any more, apparently, and he was making a lot of dramatic and emphatic gestures with his upper body as he played. He didn't care if Yukimi was watching him--in all honesty, he had all but forgotten the adult was there. He'd long ago learned to play as though no one was there, to play for himself as though no one was looking, if someone was. He'd also learned how to put on a performance... but this was not the time for the latter. He was fully intent on the music ( ... )

The first puzzling thing was, of course, the lack of strings. The dog-ghost-thing did a goddamn backflip. That would tangle the strings like woah. And he may not be a man of science, but he couldn't really think of other ways to animate something with sound and lights. Magic? Nah, that didn't exist... Unless it was some sort of jutsu? But what kind of fucked up jutsu would that be?

The second puzzling thing was when Machi slammed into him. Seriously. What the fuck. Fortunately Yukimi was at least a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier than Machi- the general effect was that of a tennis ball hitting a bowling ball. Yukimi swayed to the side slightly, shifted his weight to balance himself again, and stared down at the kid without so much as moving his feet.

"...What's up with you?"

The third puzzling thing was then the ghost-dog-thing started sniffing at Machi's gun. Machi's gun. Machi's gun. God, Yukimi was still not gonna get used to that phrase anytime soon. But really, what was it doing? Sure, as a ghost a gun didn't pose a ( ... )

Machi didn't answer, backing away from Zero rapidly as the dog-bedsheet-ghost thing moved towards him. The pianist raised his gun (holding it with both hands) and tried to say something in Borginian, but as far as either Yukimi or Zero were concerned it was essentially gibberish. The problem was that Machi didn't really know how to shoot a gun--of course, he knew you pulled the trigger, etc., but there was a big difference between a scared fifteen year old using a gun to try and protect himself against something he didn't even know it was going to be effective on and a trained detective shooting, say, something he meant to aim at. To top it off, last time Machi had used a gun it had been in the middle of a panic, and bad things happened ( ... )

Shinji was, definitely, hungry. He had... had done nothing but wander, unsuccessfully looking for Koizumi. And had slept wherever possible, because no one cared, here.

After what was probably hours of wandering, his stomach feeling as if it were about to start dissolving his innards in desperation to survive, he found it. The kitchen where he had been with Elric, earlier.

When he walked in, he was looking at the ground. Stepping over a can, Ode An Die Freude in his earbuds, he glanced around for something edible without preparation. And promptly noticed that Machi had a gun.

He stared, apathetically.

Head yet again tilting curiously as the smaller human began to talk in a way he didn't understand - Though that seemed to be normal. Maybe he had a talking problem? - Zero had no idea that the shiny metal thing begin pointed at him was bad. Slowly floating after Machi with a curious whine, one ear perked higher than the other in confusion, it was only Shinji entering that kept Zero from basically following him wherever he went until he found out what the shiny black thing was.

Turning and zipping for Shinji, Zero smiled as he got closer to the new human, ears perking up in what he hoped was a friendly and non threatening manner as he gave a small ruff in greeting. Hiiii new person!
