Ace had his jaw locked, eyes screwed shut, willing Machi to go back to sleep. He couldn't sleep, not with Machi brain rushing him. He swallowed hard, keeping the whine that was building in his throat from escaping.

It was really hard when your own head was a twisted mess to sort out the pieces of the other twisted mess in the room and kick him out of your head-space.

He was honestly not sure if there was a way to block Machi out, he was beginning to think he was just going to have to deal with a traumatized blond kid invading his brain on a regular basis.

He pressed a palm between his eyes, gritting his teeth. His head was pounding. Machi wasn't helping.

He wasn't sure if it was him or the kid that wanted to kill something.

Machi ripped the blankets out of the way, crawling out from under the bed and shutting his eyes against the light, shutting them tighter against the pain--his shoulder buckled inward and the tibia of his right leg bent, pushing him forward at the same time raw, searing agony lanced upwards, splintering through him as he stumbled and stopped, rolling onto his side until he could recover his faculties.

He was hungry; he needed food, but it was across the room and he didn't want to be out here, exposed, unaware though he was of Ace's waking state--or else he never would have moved to begin with. His head pounded, enduring inhuman levels of pain behind his eyes, behind his ears, at the curve, in his jaw, where his teeth felt like they were burrowing into him somehow. He staggered upright and picked his way over, crouching by their stores and pawing through it clumsily, impatiently--he wouldn't eat most of it, couldn't eat most of it, and didn't even try, looking for the few things he knew he could keep down. Yukimi was out, thankfully-- ( ... )

His breath hitched when Machi moved and he pulled deeper into his blankets. Machi was angry, and it was reflecting sharply back on him. He managed to keep his mouth shut, to keep his peace until Machi had finished rummaging and was heading back to bed ( ... )

Machi jerked, turning around quickly to see Ace--awake and conscious and upright, more or less, wrapped in layer after layer of heavy blankets until all that could be seen was a fragment of his face. Anger--or something like it, for it could have been defenciveness, frustration, or even fear--creased his face, adding lines to those already left in his pale features by pain and exhaustion. He backed up closer to their supplies, his right shoulder jutting out at an unnatural angle--almost ninety degrees up from the scapula, the fabric of his clothing caught on the sharp edge under the skin. He also bared his teeth, a snarl distorting his face as his fingers curled against the floor aggressively ( ... )

Ace felt his lips curl in response, head ducking and eyes narrowing. Machi might have parts to pull that look off now, but Ace had experience playing the hunter. He almost growled, the reaction entirely unconscious under the sudden emotional influx. The blankets were pulled tighter around him, blocking all but a tiny part of his face ( ... )
