Before long, Kairi would have surely felt a hand upon her. It was exactly the same hand that the younger girl had had hers taken in before that hug, not long ago... just as fragile, just as pale, but perhaps feeling a little warmer to touch now? It was as soft as ever, falling on Kairi's shoulder.

"Kairi~! I'm so glad to see you once again..." Her voice actually sounded like it had some level of emotion to it this time, outside confusion! Patchouli had since knelt down not far from where Patchouli's guest had situated herself. "But wouldn't you be more comfortable... not kneeling down so, dear~?"

In the book, the hotel manager was trying to convince a man who went to haunted places for a living, just to prove that they weren't actually haunted, not to stay a night at the so-called 'evil' hotel room, number 1408. Her eyes swept across the pages eagerly, reading about what the room had done to people, how they had died . . . one had drowned in his soup bowl, another, a maid who had been cleaning the room, apparently went insane and gouged her eyes out with scissors. She cringed thinking about these things, but knew that they weren't impossible. She couldn't say she'd seen worse, but . . .

A hand on her shoulder startled her, ripping her from the short story's chilling details and causing her to drop the book with a sharp gasp. Her head whipped around and she immediately relaxed. Patchouli. It was just Patchouli. What, is the house having ghouls roam during the daytime, now? She hoped not; but after the strange disappearing act ( ... )

"It's fine," Patchouli said, "I can quite understand... but I was seeking to get your attention... Perhaps that wasn't the best way in a place like this, hm~?" She giggled a little before pulling Kairi into her arms. "Why don't we go find some place to sit down, and you can tell me what you're looking for! I might be able to tell you something~" She began to lead the other girl toward a seat...

"No, it's just a spooky book. And it is a spooky place; you're right." She hugged Patchouli back, although was a little curious about the amount of cheeriness in her voice. It was as though she wasn't the Patchouli she remembered. Kairi shrugged this feeling off, however, as she followed the purple-haired girl to one of the chairs and sat down. "Maybe you can. Ever since the house disappeared, I got to thinking . . ." She rested her chin on her hand lightly. "What if this is some kind of turning point? First the ceilings changed . . . and the house seemed to just get up and walk off . . . and then the house itself came back and changed. I was wondering if this had, well, ever really happened before."

A slight frown tugged at her lips for a moment, and then she broke out into a chuckle. "I mean, you know, haunted houses. I didn't used to think they were real, but now that I've been here . . . well, you know. I guess I was wrong."

Once Kairi was seated in the chair, Patchouli quickly perched herself upon the arm of it, wrapping an arm around Kairi. "I suppose I'm not terribly certain as to whether this is normal, or even possible, or what might happen next. Anything could happen, it seems..." She sighed. "There's never been any recorded case of this quite happening, Kairi. There have, I think, been a few instances of 'Phantom Houses,' structures that appear or diappear" -- surely her old home at the Scarlet Devil Mansion counted, because it disappeared from the world in 1998 -- "but I don't quite think there's anything quite like the behavior this place exhibits... I'm sorry I'm not much help...

"But don't worry too much, Kairi!" She grabbed her hand. "We've mostly survived to this point, right...?"
