The sight of another figure moving through the library, typically Patchouli's domain, set the young girl in motion -- not quickly, though. Perhaps it was something about the location in question, but she didn't fly through the mansion very much, which would have taken very little time to do and would no doubt be quite a bit more efficient than if she just walked, as she did this time. She quite slowly, and quite quietly approached the new arrival. When she arrived the girl had since turned away from the book.

She stopped before her, now aware that she'd actually have to confront the young girl. Sure, she was just a young girl, but Patchouli was more than a bit... awkward about interacting with her. She'd always been bad with others. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out.

"Um..." She laughed a little. "Sorry," she said quietly, "I'm not very good at this..."

Hearing movement, Kairi re-centered her eyes and saw a girl who looked somewhat older than she before her. The first thing that stood out to her was her hair. It was so long! And not to mention purple. She admired it for a moment, and then went back to looking at her expectantly while she stumbled over her words. Kairi blinked, a little confused at first, but then realized what she must have meant. A small, gentle smile crossed her lips. "Why are you sorry? It's okay." Though she'd never met someone as shy or socially inept before, she was surprised to see that the girl was readily admitting her fault. Wasn't it more common for them just to keep to themselves? She almost reminded her of Riku in a way, which made her smile grow warmer.

"I'm Kairi. What's your name?" She had set aside the book on the armrest, carelessly and forgotten. Maybe if she was in a better place at a better time she would be interested in reading it, but not now - not in this monster house, whether it was daytime or not.

She didn't mind anyone examining her. Well, not that much. Kairi was, herself, quite pretty, certainly one who stood out, and she had a quick look over the other girl when she approached.

Her openness and willingness to introduce herself so quickly shocked Patchouli and made her feel even worse about how socially inept she was. She picked up the book and quite neatly closed it, making sure the pages were without creases or folds. "My name...?" It took her several seconds to respond. As though she'd forgotten her own name. She laughed nervously as sne kneeled down in front of the other girl.

"My... my name is Patchouli. It's a pleasure to meet you, miss Kairi... um, am I doing this right?"

The smile remained on her face as the other girl eventually got her name out. She brightened noticeably, quickly in good spirits. This other girl didn't look normal, but Kairi didn't really care about normalcy anymore. She knew a man who was half venus flytrap, for gods' sakes, and he had turned out to be kind and helpful. She was another human (or human-like entity), and she wasn't a ghost or a monster. She'd be okay (hopefully). Perhaps she was stereotyping how females were usually less hostile and violent, and she couldn't see this one, all dressed up in dainty clothes, could break that stereotype. Really, she hadn't met hardly any girls here, and although her two best friends were boys, it was quite a relief to finally get to meet another one of her sex ( ... )

Patchouli nearly cried. 'Nearly,' here, meaning she actually did, but only briefly. She calmed down rapidly and pulled herself into the chair. Someone so kind to her...?! When did this happen?!

"Sorry," she said, trying to be as calm as she could before standing to adjust the chair. "I'm... it's just... um..." She paused for a second. "Nobody's ever really been that nice to me, I've never been very good with others. I... I don't want to seem too, um... What's the word I'm looking for?" She sighed in frustration.

Stilll... "A... a hand shake? But, a gesture like that seems... insignificant. I think, I think maybe something else, for someone who's been so kind to me...!" She didn't know what she was suggesting, if anything... and rather hoped she wasn't. That tended to end horribly for her.
