Kallen could see the light on in the dinning room from where she and her new deer friend were standing. That was probably her best bet since the little animal was certainly not going back to the entrance room, and Kallen really didn’t want to walk through that hallway again. So she led them toward that light, which felt quite reassuring after being in the dark for so long ( ... )

Chopper had almost calmed down. Sure, he was in a strange place without his nakama with closet monsters that wanted to eat him, but he wasn't alone! He didn't quite know who he was with, but she reminded him so much of Nami. Her sister, maybe? That might be it! It didn't really matter. What was important was that he felt safer as he walked along with her, his hoof in her hand.

At least, he had felt safer until they came across the dining room. The living room may have been scary, but at least everything was in one piece. This was crazy! Had a monster come through here? Was it still here? What if there were more than just closet monsters? They weren't safe there!

He was about to say as much when he too noticed the boy in the corner of the room. Acting on instinct he again found himself hiding behind his new friend's leg. Again, on instinct, he was doing it terribly wrong. He didn't notice though - he was just waiting to see if the new boy would be as nice as Nami's sister.

Zero's head snapped up as the door to the Dining Room opened, lips drawing back into a snarl, baring his half formed fangs briefly.
One, no, two people(?) entered the room. The boy didn't realize their appearance, their gender or whatever else. Just that they were alive, two hearts pumping blood, two breaths warm with life.

His legs had curled beneath him, muscles tensed to spring into action, to throw one of them down and devour, when the girl stepped onto the glass shard, shattering it and with it the hold the blood lust had on him, at least momentarily. Enough to make Zero throw himself backward, farther into the corner he had huddled in, instead of forward.

"Get out!" He cried at them, sounding half mad with fright and rage.

The harshness of his voice startled Kallen, physically pushed her several steps back without even thinking. There was something wrong, she had never known fear and anger to mix in someone’s tone before, not like this. Was he holding something back? Was something attacking him? Perhaps it was whatever it was that lurked in the shadows. Regardless, the boy was in danger, and ever since she joined the rebellion Kallen had had a problem with leaving people in trouble alone.

She let go of the little deer’s hoof and squeezed his shoulder reassuringly, more confident in herself now that there was visible danger she could deal with. Slowly, she began walking towards the boy pressed against the corner, pulling out her pink pouch but keeping the blade retracted until she knew just what she was fighting. She tried to step carefully, but couldn’t help the occasional crunch or two from the broken glass and china beneath her feat.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, voice strong. She was there to help and she wasn’t backing down now.

Bristling as the other one suddenly appeared, putting his own blade the the other vampire's throat, Rayne couldn't stop herself from baring her own fangs and letting out a low growl at his muttered comments. First, the bastard cut in on her fight, and then he had the pure stupidity to not only call her a human, but an infected human ( ... )

More targets! I've got to find a way out of here before this gets any worse! It was only natural that Zero's opinion of this terrible little world continued to sour; on top of all the humanoids with bad attitudes and even worse temperments, now there were canines that looked like death warmed over to contend with ( ... )

Kallen hit the floor with a resounding thud. Broken glass dug into her back and was probably doing a number on her loose fitting tank top, though the pain from the new cuts blurred with everything else so that she hardly noticed them. God, but she hurt all over! She could do nothing but lay still for a moment, waiting for the throbbing pain at the back of her head to subside while still more blood flowed from the wound on her wrist that she had inadvertently made larger when she had freed it from the boy’s jaws ( ... )

As if matters weren't complicated enough, now there were three dog-like things to contend with. They weren't like any dogs Chopper had ever seen, and he had even seen a dog gun. No, these dogs were surrounded by the smell of death, and the reindeer didn't like it one bit. It seemed as though one was being taken care of, but now he had a choice. Turn his attention to the other two, or focus on getting Big Sister out of there. It only took a moment to decide - his first and foremost duty was always to his friends and patients. Big Sister counted as both ( ... )
