one of my students just told me she's starting a gay/straight alliance and asked me to be the advisor. I talked a fellow teacher into co-advising with me, and as much as I really want to do it, the idea still makes me a little nervous.

...but utterly ashamed to be a Californian. I haven't been this disappointed since we elected Schwarzenegger in 2003.

I bought a new car, well, a new used car anyway. I searched around the Internet for a few days and finally settled on a pretty nice 2003 Honda Element. I've liked these cars since they were introduced, and oddly enough, this one is the exact model and color that I wanted back then. my adjuster called a few hours ago and gave me the bad news. the drive axle was completely shredded, he said he's never seen one so damaged, it'd be almost $20K to fix everything. financially it isn't as big a blow as I thought it was going to be tho, they valued it at almost $17K, which is about $4000 more than we thought. your prayers are working! I heard from the insurance inspector yesterday and he said my car is not totaled, BUT he could only see what was there on the surface. it's being moved to a repair facility today to be torn down and as long as there isn't more than $2000 in additional damage (it's at $8700 right now) they won't total it. he said he's ( Read more... )

I am just out of being "upside down" in my car loan, which means I owe only slightly less than it's worth. if my car is totaled, I am likely to walk away with less than $1000 and no car. the $8500 or so in payments I have made over the past two years will be a total write-off. I am supposed to find out tomorrow, please pray for me.

I was on my way to my friend Howard's house to take advantage of his dad's incredibly generous offer of a free lawnmower for the new house when this happened. I don't know yet if it's totaled.
