Jowan arrives in Kirkwall

[OOC:  My first post, go easy on me!]

Finally, he was off that blasted floating wreck.

Jowan had managed to procure passage on a ship leaving from Denerim with what remained of his coin.  It hadn't mattered that the ship was headed to Kirkwall, a place rumored to be particularly unforgiving towards mages.  What had mattered was that the templars ( Read more... )

Anders had to do a double-take when he saw the familiar face wandering through the crowd.

No! It couldn't be...

"Jowan?"

Jowan turns, not expecting to be recognized here, of all places. He scans around, looking for the one who'd called his name. "Anders? Is that you?"

"Andraste's ass!" Anders looks at his old friend in disbelief. "What in the hell are you doing in Kirkwall?"

Jowan chuckles, managing to look slightly embarrassed. "There were, ah, difficulties with the templars in Denerim..."

"But I could ask you the same question, Anders. Why are YOU here? I've heard the templars here are ...enthusiastic."

Maker's breath. That was a face she'd never thought she'd see again, not since he escaped the Tower that first time...

"...Jowan...?"

Jowan nearly drops his (cleverly disguised as a mundane) staff in surprise at the voice behind him. "Nellie...? You're here?"

Nellie nods, still looking surprised.

"What are you doing here?"

She lowers her voice a bit.

"If you're looking for a place to hide, you picked one of the worst cities for apostates..."

Jowan chuckles, although he does glance around to make sure nobody's listening. "I didn't have much choice, admittedly. It was get on this ship, or get caught."

"J-Jowan? Is that you?" Solona almost drops the bags of goods she was shopping for upon seeing that familiar profile amonst the crowd.

Jowan turns in surprise, blinking as if he wasn't sure he'd heard the familiar voice. "Solona...? What are you doing here, of all places?"

"I-I could ask you the same question," she stutters. Maker, she hasn't seen him since she-- gave him back to the Circle. In all honesty, she was relieved that he wasn't tranquil. She'd been so afraid that he'd... "It's good to see you alive," she smiles. "Really good to see you alive."

He smiles, looking a touch embarrassed as he spreads his hands by way of explanation. "Well, one thing led to another, there was a little magic, a few more templars, and here I am," he says, glancing about to make sure they aren't being overheard. "But I'm still alive. And so are you! I'd feared the worst..."

A sun-bronzed elf watched with emerald green eyes from a rooftop. Why was that one here? Sooner or later everyone ends up here, she supposes, it is after all a large trap meant to distract them from the rest of what goes on in the rest of Thedas. He has certainly come to the wrong place if he wishes to stay hidden however and she cannot call out to him as he wears no Joining amulet.

Having spent years on the run from templars, Jowan was by nature quite cautious now; as he moves through the crowd, he watches his surroundings constantly, although he certainly tries his best not to look paranoid. Still, he pauses when he catches sight of the figure of the elf on the rooftop. Was she watching him? From this distance, he couldn't be sure. It didn't matter, though. Even if she were a templar spy, he didn't -look- like a mage. He'd taken great care to make sure that was the case.

From her perch, the little silver-haired one noticed a rather large group of templars in his path. Due to the increased activity, i.e. their own crackdown on any mage therefor pushing the mages to more extreme actions to protect themselves, the templars were beginning to set up roadbocks in tight places, with other templars at the rear to track down those who avoided such inspection points.

Oh gods. This will not end well.

Jowan mutters to himself as the crowd starts to thicken, a sure sign that there was some sort of disturbance ahead. He could have proceeded, but being caught in a crowd might end badly for him if news of his arrival had somehow preceded him. Feigning nonchalance, he simply turns around, headed back the way he'd came. There was likely another way into the city, after all.
