Anders had to do a double-take when he saw the familiar face wandering through the crowd.

Jowan turns, not expecting to be recognized here, of all places. He scans around, looking for the one who'd called his name. "Anders? Is that you?"

"Andraste's ass!" Anders looks at his old friend in disbelief. "What in the hell are you doing in Kirkwall?"

Jowan chuckles, managing to look slightly embarrassed. "There were, ah, difficulties with the templars in Denerim..."

"But I could ask you the same question, Anders. Why are YOU here? I've heard the templars here are ...enthusiastic."

Anders cringes. "Yeah...I didn't realize that 'til I got here. Guess I should have paid more attention during our history classes." He grins sheepishly.

Jowan waves a hand dismissively. "You know full well I slept through those. I just ...hear rumors, sometimes."

He glances around, as if watching for templars. "You look well enough, though. That is good.. I wasn't sure I'd meet any friendly faces here."

Anders smiles wryly. "You'd be surprised who you might run into here. Come on, I'll buy you a drink at the Hanged Man and you can tell me what's been going on since I left."

Jowan grins at that. "Thanks... I think I could use a drink. Or three. I hate boats, did I ever tell you that?"

Anders laughs as he leads Jowan through Lowtown. "No, the subject never came up seeing as how we were locked in a Tower."

Jowan looks around cautiously, taking in the scenery. "I don't think I care for towers much, either. They don't have one here, do they?"

"Yeah, they do." Anders frowns. "It's called The Gallows. Nasty place."

Jowan glances over at Anders, looking a bit pale. "They hang mages here? Why are we here, again?"

Anders frowns as he opens the door to the Hanged Man. "They do worse than that. They tranquil harrowed mages here."

Jowan shakes his head in disgust. "I think I'd rather be hanged." He glances around the tavern, nodding his approval as he takes a seat. "Do they just like to name places after hangings here, then?"

Anders laughs. "You know, I'd honestly never thought about that." He signals to the waitress and orders two pints of ale. "I have to warn you, the ale here tastes like piss...but at least it gets you drunk."

Jowan accepts the ale from the waitress gratefully, helping himself to a long drink. "Don't care," he says with a chuckle. "Drunk would be kinda nice right about now. So is not having templars a half-step behind me. Now they're a full step."
