New Vid: The Un-American (Smallville, Gen mostly)

Feb 02, 2011 20:53

I haven't made a new vid in over 2 years, but I love this song and I love the VRA storyline on Smallville and it fit pretty perfectly IMHO.  The vid is pretty meta as vids go, and I draw parallels to the real life heroes and villains of the McCarthy era.  So think of this as the trailer to my as-yet-to-be-written meta about the VRA, McCarthyism, ( Read more... )

So I absolutely loved this vid - perfect song lyrics and the meta aspect was perfect. And the editing was so cool.

SV often doesn't get enough credit (even from its fans) for the ideas and realities it plays around with. And this VRA storyline appeals to me because it's so real, and it's part of histories of countries the world over. I wish the show could focus more on it, to be honest, but the seeds really were set as far back as season 8, and really even further than that to the strange happenings in Smallville and obviously the JSA etc. etc.

So this was awesome. So awesome. And I'm so excited to read your META because it will be brilliant.

Thank you so so much. I was really nervous about this vid because it's actually the most ambitious one I've ever made (because contrary to what YouTube indicates, I've made over 20 vids). But thank you for your comments.

SV often doesn't get enough credit (even from its fans) for the ideas and realities it plays around with.I KNOW RIGHT?! So many people dismiss it, but I'm like "No really! Pay attention because this is serious stuff". I love the VRA storyline and it's parallels to historical events DOES make it more real. As real as a story about an alien superhero could make it, because if superpowered heroes really did exist, hell yeah something like a VRA would happen as soon as they went public. And the fact that Smallville isn't necessarily painting it in strokes of black and white, but showing both sides not just with heroes vs. villains, but with showing us people like Sam Lane and Cat Grant who are obviously NOT bad guys but believe in this legislation with good reason ( ... )

This song just went so well here. I came to this vid by way of serenography and I have to concur with her - I am much more psyched up to see the rest of the season now and the return of the show. It's such a classic mytharc - heroes and villains and the VRA storyline echoing the fear regimes of the past in cold war times. This vid so beautifully encapsulates all those facets - from the propaganda to the sinister fear mongering to the heroic deeds despite such public adversity. It also brought home to me how much I've missed seeing Clark on my screen. Thankyou for making and sharing. Off now to listen to more Matt Morris.

Thank you so much. I'm seriously speechless by your comments and just want to say thank you for watching. What can I say, I love history and I love when Smallville sometimes sneeks up and gets a little deep on us, lol. I also miss seeing Clark so so much that making this vid helped with some of the withdrawal, but I'm so anxious for new episodes and to hopefully see Smallville nail the landing on this story arc the way they nailed the landing on the Zod arc last season.

And I really hope you enjoy listening to Matt Morris. I love his voice and this song is just one of many that I love from his album (When Everything Breaks Open, fyi)

Ack! I've had this open in a tab for awhile now, waiting to have time to watch it and now I'm mad that it took me so long since it's so wonderful! The song and the imagery is just perfect.

This vid is *wonderful*. The VRA storyline is an ambitious one for SV to tackle, but they're doing really interesting things wit it, and you touched on a lot of its best points here. Really well done!

Thank you so much. One of the things I like about it that there are the heroes and there are the villains, but then there are the people like General Lane and Cat Grant that have made legitimate arguments for the VRA, thereby making this not just a black or white issue, because yes, with the Suicide Squad around and AC and Meta blowing things up like terrorists, then Sam and Cat don't just sound like right wing crazies anymore. But we know that there are also legit heroes like The Blur, and Sam learned that and Cat might be learning that so it's just...very fascinating. But really, Lois is Murrow and I love it.

I'm so very glad you did. I'm not ashamed to say that this is my favorite of the 20 or so I've made. I have some Clex visa on lockdown because I'm kind of embarassed to show them now, lol>
