Confession time: This was never one of my favorite episodes (I'm typing this even before I've started the dvd). Let's see if my opinion of it has changed.
Episode 15: Nicodemus (part IV)itasheeJune 6 2010, 11:09:19 UTC
//Alright, Pete is infected and for some reason his symptoms show up WAAAAY faster than everyone elses. And where the hell did that gun come from

Episode 16: Stray (part I)itasheeJune 9 2010, 13:45:44 UTC
Stray is one of my all-time favourite episodes of Smallville. And if I could use one word to describe this episode - I'd say that Stray is one of the most "TOUCHING" episodes in the history of this show

Yeah, I'm glad the Network spoke up.
So you know my heart broke into tiny pieces when I watched "Ryan", right?
*According to Millar: “Part of the success of Stray is that it’s another ‘What if?’ episode. Once again, it was about Clark. What if he had been raised by the wrong people and his powers had been exploited? It just mirrors Clark’s life, and again we see that Clark really is who he is because of his parents.”
Maybe Millar isn't a COMPLETE moron, then, because I like the idea behind these "What if" episodes.
1) What if Clark took his obsession with Lana too far 2) What if Clark used his powers for evil/revenge 3) What if Clark had been found by parents that were afraid of him/would exploit his abilities.
And I like that not all of the metahumans he's encountered have been bad guys, but just misled in the cases of people like Ryan.

I was literally crying when I watched the ending scene in “Ryan” (Dishwalla’s ‘Angels or Devils’ was beautifully playing in the background - I think this version of the song is even more touching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z5lL-y_-0g ). “Ryan” was such a sad episode - one of the best episodes of season 2, in my opinion.

Yeah, maybe Millar isn’t “a COMPLETE moron” - hehehe. I really like the idea of “What if” episodes - most of the times these episodes were really interesting and enjoyable to watch.
Episode 16: Stray (part II)itasheeJune 9 2010, 13:52:34 UTC
//And it was pointed out to me that Ryan's step dad is also Sylvester Pemberton from Absolute Justice (Society/Legends). At least when SV recasts actors for different roles, they do it just far apart that we don't realize it

The way Martha found Ryan - reminded me of Lois finding Clark (Lois in Crusade: “I guess I'm a sucker for stray dogs and naked guys”) and then Shelby after she hits him/her with her car.
This is how you know it's fate, lol.
Yeah, Ryan was really rude to Lex - and I don’t blame him… You know, I think that when Ryan read his thoughts he saw the unfathomable darkness within Lex’s mind (this very disturbing, wicked side of him) and he was simply scared.
You wouldn't believe how many Lex fans DO blame and disliked Ryan because he was rude to Lex. I'm like "Dude, the kid id telepathic. I think he knows what's going on in Lex's head better than we do."
Episode 16: Stray (part III)itasheeJune 9 2010, 13:59:47 UTC
//Ryan can "hear" his stepfather is near and takes off. He's hiding in a dumpster and is nearly crushed by the truck when Clark saves him...surrounded by a halo of light

I remember loving this episode instantly when I first watched it. Ryan was a sweetheart and I adored his scenes with Clark, and then I fell in love with Clark all over again. It breaks my heart that they didn't get more time together, but in my own personal canon, Clark and Lois name their first son after Ryan. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I think Ryan's stepfather might even be worse than Lionel in this episode.
