Summary: Hogan has a little gift for Klink to help decorate a German officer's Christmas party table.
“A snowman? But why would I want a snowman as my centerpiece?” Colonel Klink inquired as he stared at the eight-inch high snowman that sat before him on his desk.
“Just think about it,” said Hogan as he drew closer to Klink’s desk. “How many other German officers do you know get to host a Christmas party?”
“But why a snowman?” Klink wrinkled his brow at the paper mache object. The ideas that he had to endure from Hogan were as tiresome as the calls from General Burkhalter!
“Look at it Klink! A snowman is full of innocence and childhood memories! Don’t you recall the days when you were a kid, just sitting in your house, watching it snow, and dreaming of the time where you would be let out to go play in the snow?”
Having put his chin in his hand the moment Hogan went into another one of his fanciful descriptions, Klink tapped his chin in thought. “Yes, yes, I seem to recall a vague memory like that but I still don’t see why I should have this as my centerpiece. The generals are going to be expecting something a bit more, German.”
“And snowmen aren’t German?” Hogan shook his head. “Tough luck to be a snowman then. If he can’t get into a party in Germany, then he just hasn’t got a chance anywhere in this world!”
“Colonel Hogan you exaggerate! Of course Germany loves snowmen but we’re looking for something a bit more dignified.”
“Well fine!” Hogan snatched the little object. “If this snowman isn’t dignified enough for you then we’ll just have to send the news to General Burkhalter”. Donning a deep frown, Hogan feigned grief as he continued, “It’ll just break the General’s heart when he hears that you didn’t want to honour his childhood memories! Oh well, your funeral.”
Klink lunged for the snowman and took it protectively into his arms. “No, no! There’s no need to be so hasty Hogan! When I say that it’s not dignified enough, I mean to say, it’s only lacking in one small detail!”
“And what’s that?” Colonel Hogan inquired. He watched as Klink rummaged about his desk for a moment.
“Ah ha… you see…” Klink fixed a small Nazi Swastika to the snowman. “Now he’s fit to sit on the desk of the Fürher!”
“It’s gotten colder already,” Hogan smirked. “Nice touch, Colonel. But are you sure you want it? You were so keen on not having it before.”
“Hogan, you would do well to remember that the German mind is always superior to yours and that while we may be military, we still enjoy a snowman every now and then. Now that is all Hogan; you are dismissed.”
Starting towards the door, Hogan made to leave but paused for a moment. “Are you certain though Colonel? I mean, I don’t want to push the snowman on you if it’s not to your liking.”
“No one is pushing the snowman now out!”
As Hogan left the office, he couldn’t help the smirk of satisfaction rapidly spreading across his face. Once inside the barracks the men quickly gathered around him. Rubbing his hands together, Hogan grinned at the men.
“Well, I think tonight Frosty is going to ensure that we will hear where our German friends are going to launch their air strike.”
