At Wit's End.

I am definitely not bothering with the third movie. Without going into an extreme level of detail, the info given out by an official book on the market was enough to tell me all I needed to know. If you want to attend the movie with a completely blank slate, don't read under the cut.

They completely threw the mood of the first movie out forever, ( Read more... )

I love you - I'm still going to see At Wit's End, mind you - but I love your honesty about how all of this is going to end. ^_^ CotBP Forever!

Well, seeing it shouldn't be too harmful to the CotBP fandom, because I'm pretty sure we won't feel like the movie's even in the same universe; watch away, enjoy the visual goodies :)

And love all around to all you diehard CotBP supporters.

I have to say that what you've said is very similar to how I feel. I've decided that I won't waste my money to see what I call the 'craptastic sequel of doom,' at least not the week it opens.

I'm going to wait, and if I'm not satisfied with the details I hear from other people (And certainly I'll almost certainly be disappointed.), I'm not going to waste my money at all. I can wait until it's on one of the movie channels.

I've already gone far beyond ignoring the sequels with my fanfic. Of course, my "AU"s in my opinion make far more sense than whatever you want to call what T&T produced.

CotBP will still be one of my favorite movies, and favorite sandboxes to play in fandom-wise.

*Returns the love of CotBP supporters!*

I'll see it if it's free, in order to see Barbossa sailing around a vortex laughing like a madman. That's about it ;)

And yes, most of the AU's I've read have been far better than the sequels, which has been quite fun; after all, we can keep writing these AUs at will, keeping the original CotBP world alive and interactive.

I've found that since I drew a line under CotBP and said '*that's* my fandom, the sequels are nothing to do with me, thank you,' the angst factor of spoilers and sequels has been considerably reduced. I pretty much hate what I've seen and heard of AWE (though I am happy that this time there looks to be a lot more tall ship action than there was in DMC), but having decided to wash my hands of the sequels already, it isn't bothering me too much. I might even be enjoying myself a little, pointing and laughing ;)

Oh my, I think I came to your reasoning after trying to have a conversation about AWE with a Sruffington fan over at _norrington. I asked if I was the only one who thought it was ridiculous to have everyman going after Elizabeth and having Sao Feng think she's Calypso when Singapore does even *exist* on the known Western map yet. The response I got was enough to make me take a step back and get behind my pre-DMC statement of, "It's only a movie based on an amusement park ride and the pirates don't eat the tourists."

*g* Yes, a popcorn movie is meant above all to be *fun*. In my book both DMC and AWE are taking themselves rather too seriously, which is one of the things that has taken all the fun out of it for me.

But Jack firing that cannon with the slow-match was a moment of geeky ship-love for me. Don't care about the characters any more, but there seem to be some lovely ships this time around.

I am full of the geeky ship-love. Come check out my photobucket - I've got the link on my main LJ thread.

We're entirely on the same wavelength about this. Why bother (and vasting money *G*) about something so ridiculous and which has nothing to do with my personal interests and likings ? CotBP is more than enough for me. :)

I agree the CotBP world is much more believable and fun to RP in...but I did love the third movie.

*ducks as things are thrown - waves a white flag*

That's just my two cents. But I tend to love all things piratey, and I'm sure I will pick holes in it once I have seen it more than once. Fun fun.

I'm just angry that it could have been so much better. But as you know, I have nothing against people enjoying the merrygoround ride that all of the movies are.

There's something to enjoy in all of them.
