As I catch up with my flist I find:

1) Amazon is possibly marking any LBGT book as 'adult' and therefore stripping it of its rankings. I say "possibly" only because I haven't researched this beyond the linked post. But if true that's surprisingly stupid of them. [ETA: more info here]

2) OW MY OVARIES3) Approximately five billion posts that say " ( Read more... )

Wow, I need to go check Dairy Queen, Sunday You Learn How to Box, and From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun. Those are three fantastic YA books that come to mind that are most definitely LBGT. Jacqueline Woodson is a Coretta Scott King winner, a Newbery Honor Author, and a National Book Award winner. I wonder what her reaction is going to be if they strip her Melanin Sun book of its rank? The author of Dairy Queen Catherine Gilbert Murdock is the sister of Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote Eat, Pray, Love. Those are some heavy hitters right there. Bil Martin, the author of Sunday You Learn How to Box got letters from LGBT preteen and teens who said his book saved their lives. This is terrible. I'm going to go look now.

I wonder if even the kids's books - like Heather Has Two Mommies or King and King - are being considered "adult" as well.

King and King and And Tango Makes Three have not been stripped. Heather Has Two Mommies has. Tango is about the gay penguins who fell in love at the New York City zoo and built a nest together. I don't know if they were allowed to adopt, or not. I'm still speechless over their nerve at doing this.

Can't speak for anyone other than me, but all my rankings are stripped and gone. Kindle rankings remain.

Mmm. There's a petition, but I don't know how effective that will be.

Jacqueline Woodson's book has been stripped of ranking. Bil Martin's book is still ranked, and so is Dairy Queen.

I'm going to pop over to Jacqueline Woodson's website and let her know what's going on. This is crazy.

I just emailed Jacqueline Woodson. I don't know if she'll be one that will raise a ruckus over this, but she might. Also, since her books frequent the ALA's most banned and challenged book lists, and have for years, this may not be surprising to her at all.

Wow, my Amazon Prime membership is due to renew in a few days. I wonder if I should let it expire.

And OMFG I'm so tired of reading all the requests for Dreamwidth invite codes.

*hugs you and sends chocolate bunnies*
