Today, in typologoly

After wading through yet another attack of commentologically transmitted stupidity, I found myself wondering about a question. And, since I'm paying to be able to make polls, I thought I would.

Poll Tell me! How many spaces after a period?

polls, tell me!, pedantry, typing

Trained as 2, but that was in the Olden Days. Doesn't matter much anymore.

I use one space when I'm using a proportional font, and two spaces when using a monospaced font.

Yes, I learned to type on an IBM Selectric in 1980, but I also assimilated the books The PC/Mac is Not a Typewriter ten years later.

Yes, if I compose something for one format and then convert it to the other, I will go through and correct the spacing -- unless it's for HTML, which ignores multiple spaces between words.

If it was two spaces instead of a period, I might understand. But you already have what is essentially a super-space, followed by a space. A superspace followed by two spaces? That's madness.

I'm another one who was taught two spaces on typewriters and never broke the habit.

One more for the "learned with two, have switched to one" camp.
