I agree :( Although I think I read that issue #2 sold higher than #1 and the trend has continued? Sales are about 46-7K as I recall which doesn't seem bad (by Wildstorm standards it'd be bloody amazing, but...)
I too had my issues with bits of this book, but I was always cheered by two things - the fact that Cornell was obviously writing with enormous regard for Ellis-era Authority and also Planetary (that scale and weirdness), and also the affectionate and respectful way he described the Apollo-Midnighter 'romance' (his word) in interviews. So I'm concerned which aspects of his take on this book didn't meet with editorial approval :|
And all else aside, man, I am *so sick* of the Authority getting dicked around with writer changes and editorial. Yeah, I know it's not the Authority but it's the closest we're getting, and behold, editorial are jacking it about yet again. Why am I surprised...
Yes, I've enjoyed Cornell a lot. I agree that some of his pacing's felt a bit off and some of the dialogue's been exposition-heavy, but he was getting into his stride, had some terrific ideas, and I felt his genuine Ellis vibe made up for everything else :(
Yeah, there was a lot of exposition but a lot of the other relaunch titles had the same thing, so I was more than willing to wait it out. I really liked where he was going, and he seemed really passionate about it. =/
Is Bleeding Cool definitely correct about that? DC's The Source said that Jenkins would be 'joining' for a two part story, but it didn't say Cornell was off after. =/ Boy I should read things first, missed the tweet/horses mouth bit. Man that sucks.
Also, seriously don't want Jenkins on it. This is the same guy who's currently writing a bunny girl as a Batman villain. ._. Yuck.
This gives me flashbacks to every other writer change on Authority I've ever read through. If Apollo and Midnighter are being written well, then a new writer comes on, I just sort of brace and pray for them not to be a Garth Ennis type. Even more so if the change is editorially-mandated.
Ah man, this leaves me kinda speechless here. I mean Cornell probably wasn't my favorite of all times writer, but he seemed so enthusiastic about writing Stormwatch...and now? What happened? Did he decide to leave after just six issues? Or did they kick him out of it? Also it completely robs the title of any chance to settle into a good consistent storytelling anytime soon, with Jenkins only being confirmed for two issues. I was just getting interested in where he wanted to take the characters and it's already over. I don't think i like this at all. Lets just hope it's a change for the better....or at least not for the worse >___<

Yeah, I loved that.
Personally I really like Cornell, he's been my favourite relaunch author (I love him on Demon Knights too), so I'm absolutely gutted. :(
